Population size and migration

The population of the region as of December 1, 2025 amounted to 695,6 thousand people, including 401,3 thousand people (57,7%) - urban, 294,3 thousand people (42,3%) -rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-November 2025 amounted to 4228 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 5135 people).

For January-November 2025 the number of births was 9144 people (10,9% less than in January-November 2024), the number of deaths was 4916 people (4,1% less than in January-November 2024).          

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to – -4654 people (in January-November 2024 – -2673 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of – -39 people (+370), in internal -negative – - 4615 people and (-3043).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the ІII quarter of 2025 amounted to 16975 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,7% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of January 1, 2026 amounted
to 12734 people, or 3,6% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IIІ quarter of 2025 amounted to 363934 tenge, an increase compared to the IIІ quarter of 2024 amounted to 7%.
The real wage index in IIІ quarter 2025 was 95,1%.

In the IIІ quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 220271 tenge, which is 11,6% higher than in IIІ quarter 2024, decreasein real cash income for the specified period is 0,8%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2025 amounted to 3534991,4 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,8% more than in January-December 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 0,2%, in the manufacturing industry by 12,2%. In the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned air, the decrease in production was 15,2%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities by 5,8%.

The volume of gross output (services) of agricultural, forestry and fisheries in January-December 2025 amounted to 320061,8 million tenge, or 102,8% by January-December 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2025 amounted to 12558 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 109,2% compared to January-December 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic - 4094,4 million pkm, or 103,9 % by January-December 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 379722,2 million tenge, or 111,2% compared to January-December 2024.

In January-December 2025, the total area of housing put into operation ascreased by 0,8% and amounted to 642,4 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings by 0,9% (367 thousand square meters), individual residential buildings increased by 1,8% (274,3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2025 amounted to 874449,5 million tenge, or 113,7% by January-December 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2026 amounted to 12548 units and increased by 2,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 12192 units with fewer than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 10658 units, including 10302 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 10012 units and increased by 2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 year amounted to 2206170,2 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2024 year, real GRP increased by 6%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 60,1%, services - 36,7%.

The consumer price index in Deсember 2025 compared to December 2024 was 111,8%.

Prices for food products increased by 12,7%, non-food products - by 8,6%, paid services for the population - by 13,8%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in Deсember 2025 compared to December 2024 decreased by 6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 660155,3 million tenge, or 0,2% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 706469,2 million tenge, or 100,2% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2025 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 805,8 million US dollars and increased by 11,2% to January-November 2024, including exports - 122,4 million US dollars (by 11,9% less), imports - 683,4 million US dollars (16,7% more).
