Population size and migration

The population of the region as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 1134,0 thousand people, including 929,4 thousand people
(82% ) – urban, 204,6 thousand people (18%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-November 2024 amounted to 4479 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 5468 people).

The number of births as January-November 2024 amounted to 14241 people (5,9% less than in January-November 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 9762 people (0,9% more than in January-November 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -5828 people (in January-November 2023 – -4800 people), including in internal – -5322 people in internal migration (-4130), and – -506 people in in external migration (-670).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 23,5 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,1% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of Desember 1, 2024 amounted to 9131 people, or 1.6% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 374937 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2023 amounted to 13,7%.

The real wage index in III quarter 2024 was 103,7%.

In the III quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 232251 tenge, which is 11,1% higher than in III quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 1,4%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2024 amounted to 4035025,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 12% more than in January-December 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 14%, in the manufacturing industry - by 12,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 3,6%. In water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased by 1,9%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-December
2024 amounted to 491764,6 million tenge, or 116% by 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2024 amounted to 39659,0 million tkm (аccounting for the amount of work performed by individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 97,5% compared to January- December 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 2857,7 million pkm, or 101,6% by January- December 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 665337,6 million tenge, or 123,7% compared to 2023.

In January-December 2024, the total area of commissioned housing increasedby 18,8% and amounted to 540,3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 23,1% (454,9 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of commissioned individual residential buildings decreased by 1,8% (74,1 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2024 amounted to 1432439,7 million tenge, or 161% by 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 28503 units and decreased by 0,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 27950 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 22825 units, including 22287 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium-sized enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 24627 units and decreased by 1,1% compared to the corresponding date in 2024.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to 5805103 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, real GRP increased by 9,9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 50%, services – 43,3%.

The consumer price index in December 2024 compared to December 2023 was 109,6%.

Prices for food products increased by 6,4%, non-food products – by 8,7%, paid services for the population – by 14,1%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 7,6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 1678142 million tenge, or 3,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 3024666.2 million tenge, or 29,5% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to
2585 million US dollars and increased by 0,8%  compared to January-November 2023, including exports – 1505,6 million US dollars (by 3,7% less), imports – 1079,4 million US dollars (7,7% more).
