Population size and migration

The population of the region as of August 1, 2024 amounted to 695.3 thousand people, including 395.7 thousand people (56.9%) – urban, 299.6 thousand people (43.1%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- July 2024 amounted to 3465 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 3865 people).

For January- July 2024 the number of births was 6747 people (3.4% less than in January- July 2023), the number of deaths was 3282 people (5.1% more than in January- July 2023).     

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to – 1411 people (in January- July 2023 – -555 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of – 247 people (+382), in internal – negative – - 1658 people and (-937).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 16,9 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of August 1, 2024 amounted
to 17308 people, or 4,9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 342237 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 7,6%.
The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 99,5%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 198658 tenge, which is 18,6% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-August 2024 amounted to 2440177 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,1% less than in January-August 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 0,1%.  In the manufacturing industry production volumes decreased by 1,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned air  decreased by 0,2%,  in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by 28,7%. 

The volume of gross output (services) of agricultural, forestry and fisheries in January-August 2024 amounted
to 158721,2 million tenge, or 101,7% by January- August 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-August 2024 amounted to 7118,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 94,8% compared to January-July 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 2517 million pkm, or 102,2% by January-August 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 128240,5 million tenge, or 83,2% compared to January-August 2023.

In January-August 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 0,1% and amounted
to 321,7 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - increased by 4,1% (203,7 thousand square meters), individual residential buildings - decreased by 7,6% (116,1 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- August 2024 amounted to 355263,6 million tenge, or 95,3% by January- August 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 12513 units and decreased by 0.1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 12181 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9997 units, including 9669 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12423 units and decreased by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for 2023 year amounted to 5 323 194,5 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2022 year, real GRP increased by 7,2%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 50,4%, services –41%.

The consumer price index in August 2024 compared to December 2023 was 105,5%.

Prices for food products increased by 3,5%, non-food products - by 5%, paid services for the population - by 9,9%.               
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in August 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 6,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-August2024 amounted to 353120,4 million tenge, or 0,8% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-August2024 amounted to 350121,5 million tenge, or 105,6% compared to the corresponding period in 2023..

According to preliminary data, in January-July 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 402,5 million US dollars and decreased by 27% compared to January-July 2023, including exports – 77,2 million US dollars (by 49,2% less), imports – 325,3 million US dollars (18,5% less).
