The population of the Kostanay region as of July 1, 2026 amounted to 819.6 thousand people, including 525.7 thousand people (64.1%) – urban, 293.9 thousand people (35.9%) – rural residents.
The natural decline in the population in January-June 2026 amounted to 397 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year the natural increase in the population – 109 people).
The number of births as January-June 2026 amounted to 3724 people (7.3% less than in January-June 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 4121 people (5.5% more than in January-June 2025).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 1459 people (in January-June 2025 – -2089 people), including in external migration – 100 people (91 people), in internal migration – -1559 people (-2180 people).
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 20442 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.5% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 10506 people or 2.3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 394942 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10.1%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 98.9%.
The volume of industrial production in January-July 2026 amounted to 1818754 million tenge in current prices, which is 1.6% more than in January-July 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 9.6%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 5.7%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 5.6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 6.7%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-July 2026 amounted to 148047.8 million tenge or 106% by January-July 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-July 2026 amounted to 14906.4 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 101.8% compared to January-July 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 1038.3 million p-km, or 163% by January-July 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 200082.5 million tenge or 122.3% compared to January-July 2025.
In January-July 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 6% and amounted to 309.8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 7.2% (258.5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 5.9% (47.9 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-July 2026 amounted to 363891.9 million tenge or 104.6% by January-July 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 14729 units and decreased by 0.1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14352 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12728 units, including 12351 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11395 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2026 amounted to 1167700.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2025, real GRP increased by 102.8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 47%, services – 49.2%.
The consumer price index in July 2026 compared to December 2025 was 105.7%.
Prices for food products increased by 5.5%, non-food products – by 6%, paid services for the population – by 5.7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in July 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 1.4%.
The volume of retail trade in January-July 2026 amounted to 445044.1 million tenge, or 5,4% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-July 2026 amounted to 763196.1 million tenge, or 100.5% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-June 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 747 million US dollars and increased by 6.2% compared to January-June 2025, including exports – 279.3 million US dollars
(by 6.8% more), imports – 467.7 million US dollars (5.9% more).
