The population of the Kostanay region as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 821 thousand people, including 525 thousand people (63.9%) – urban, 296 thousand people (36.1%) – rural residents.
The natural decline in the population in January-February 2026 amounted to 96 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 30 people).
The number of births as January-February 2026 amounted to 1168 people (5.3% less than in January-February 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 1264 people (0.1% more than in January-February 2025).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 385 people (in January-February 2025 – -622 people), including in external migration – 82 people (69 people), in internal migration – -467 people (-691 people).
The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 21011 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of Аpril 1, 2026 amounted to 10408 people or 2.3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 416699 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 10.7%.
The real wage index in IV quarter 2025 was 98.9%.
In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 255730 tenge, which is 16.7% higher than in IV quarter 2024, the index of real monetary income for the specified period is 104.3%.
The volume of industrial production in January-March 2026 amounted to 740854.8 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.5% less than in January-March 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 12.4%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 6.3%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 3.7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 6.1%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-March 2026 amounted to 45017.4 million tenge or 102.5% by January-March 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-March 2026 amounted to 6463.4 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 89.4% compared to January-March 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 418.7 million p-km, or 154.4% by January-March 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 52235.3 million tenge or 106.6% compared to January-March 2025.
In January-March 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4.9% and amounted to 126.3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 11.4% (101.7 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 19.9% (23.2 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2026 amounted to 70948.8 million tenge or 55% by January-March 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 14670 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14298 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12738 units, including 12366 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11349 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 3523341.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2024, real GRP increased by 108%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 46.2%, services – 50.9%.
The consumer price index in March 2026 compared to December 2025 was 102.8%.
Prices for food products increased by 3.1%, non-food products – by 2.1%, paid services for the population – by 2.9%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 6.2%.
The volume of retail trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 160754.9 million tenge, or 2% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 253877.6 million tenge, or 108.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-February 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 177.4 million US dollars and decreased by 15.4% compared to January-February 2025, including exports – 62.1 million US dollars (by 18.1% less), imports – 115.3 million US dollars (13.8% less).
