The population of the Kostanay region as of September 1, 2026 amounted to 818.4 thousand people, including 525.6 thousand people (64.2%) – urban, 292.8 thousand people (35.8%) – rural residents.
The natural decline in the population in January-August 2026 amounted to 525 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year the natural increase in the population – 164 people).
The number of births as January-August 2026 amounted to 4985 people (8.1% less than in January-August 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 5510 people (4.7% more than in January-August 2025).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 2490 people (in January-August 2025 – -3022 people), including in external migration – 54 people (180 people), in internal migration – -2544 people (-3202 people).
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 20442 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.5% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October 1, 2026 amounted to 10889 people or 2.4% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 412546 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 8.2%.
The real wage index in II quarter 2026 was 97.9%.
The volume of industrial production in January-September 2026 amounted to 2377093 million tenge in current prices, which is 2.5% more than in January-September 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 8%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 6.7%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 6.3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 6.3%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-September 2026 amounted to 596669.4 million tenge or 111.4% by January- September 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-September 2026 amounted to 19642.2 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 102.2% compared to January-September 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 1392.7 million p-km, or 165.7% by January-September 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 292487 million tenge or 105% compared to January-September 2025.
In January-September 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 0.9% and amounted to 394.5 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 4.1% (331.4 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 18% (59.5 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2026 amounted to 480406.3 million tenge or 100.8% by January-September 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2026 amounted to 14743 units and decreased by 0.02% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14364 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12756 units, including 12377 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11395 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2026 amounted to 2307385.6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2025, real GRP increased by 105.1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 43.6%, services – 52.9%.
The consumer price index in September 2026 compared to December 2025 was 107%.
Prices for food products increased by 5.9%, non-food products – by 7.8%, paid services for the population – by 7.7%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 0.1%.
The volume of retail trade in January-September 2026 amounted to 627223.2 million tenge, or 6.4% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-September 2026 amounted to 1045541.8 million tenge, or 100.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-August 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1002.8 million US dollars and increased by 8% compared to January-August 2025, including exports – 386.7 million US dollars (by 24% more), imports – 616.1 million US dollars, or 100% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
