The population of the Kostanay region as of January 1, 2026 amounted to 821.5 thousand people, including 524.4 thousand people (63.8%) – urban, 297.1 thousand people (36.2%) – rural residents.
The natural decline in the population in January-December 2025 amounted to 18 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year the natural increase in the population – 741 people).
The number of births as January-December 2025 amounted to 8149 people (11.2% less than in January-December 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 8167 people (3.1% less than in January-December 2024).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 4087 people (in January-December 2024 – -5128 people), including in external migration – 412 people (549 people), in internal migration – -4499 people (-5677 people).
The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 21011 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of February 1, 2026 amounted to 9551 people or 2.1% of the labor force.
The volume of industrial production in January 2026 amounted to 216506.7 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.5% more than in January 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 7.8%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 3.5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 2%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 2.9%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January 2026 amounted to 14123.4 million tenge or 102.5% by January 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January 2026 amounted to 2497.3 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 104.2% compared to January 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 137.5 million p-km, or 141.3% by January 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 5407.4 million tenge or 101.7% compared to January 2025.
In January 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 10.2% and amounted to 26.3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 9.7% (13.2 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 0.2% (11.8 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January 2026 amounted to 13542.9 million tenge or 66.7% by January 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of February 1, 2026 amounted to 14672 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14302 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12811 units, including 12441 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11350 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 3523341.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2024, real GRP increased by 108%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 46.2%, services – 50.9%.
The consumer price index in January 2026 compared to December 2025 was 100.8%.
Prices for food products increased by 0.6%, non-food products – by 0.8%, paid services for the population – by 1%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2.4%.
The volume of retail trade in January 2026 amounted to 46570.3 million tenge, or 2.1% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January 2026 amounted to 80250.3 million tenge, or 105.5% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-December 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1449 million US dollars and decreased by 8.8% compared to January-December 2024, including exports – 502.3 million US dollars (by 14.1% less), imports – 946.7 million US dollars (5.7% less).
