The population of the Kostanay region as of February 1, 2026 amounted to 821.2 thousand people, including 524.7 thousand people (63.9%) – urban, 296.5 thousand people (36.1%) – rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January 2026 amounted to 31 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year the natural decline in the population – 28 people).
The number of births as January 2026 amounted to 627 people (5.6% more than in January 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 596 people (4.2% less than in January 2025).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 269 people (in January 2025 – -368 people), including in external migration – 57 people (14 people), in internal migration – -326 people (-382 people).
The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 21011 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 10509 people or 2.3% of the labor force.
The volume of industrial production in January-February 2026 amounted to 473878.8 million tenge in current prices, which is 2.1% less than in January-February 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 10.4%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 10.3%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 0.6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 7.7%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-February 2026 amounted to 30248.5 million tenge or 102.4% by January-February 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-February 2026 amounted to 4408.8 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 93% compared to January-February 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 278.2 million p-km, or 151.8% by January-February 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 17950.6 million tenge or 62.3% compared to January-Febuary 2025.
In January-Febuary 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 0.7% and amounted to 55.9 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 6% (38.1 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 15.8% (16.5 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-Febuary 2026 amounted to 27254.5 million tenge or 27.3% by January-Febuary 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 14658 units and decreased by 0.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14287 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12813 units, including 12442 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11336 units and decreased by 0.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 3523341.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2024, real GRP increased by 108%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 46.2%, services – 50.9%.
The consumer price index in February 2026 compared to December 2025 was 102%.
Prices for food products increased by 2.3%, non-food products – by 1.6%, paid services for the population – by 2.1%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in February 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 3.3%.
The volume of retail trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 97214.2 million tenge, or 1.9% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 164307 million tenge, or 108% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 95 million US dollars and decreased by 0.2% compared to January 2025, including exports – 36.8 million US dollars (by 2.2% less), imports – 58.2 million US dollars (1.1% more).
