The population of the Kostanay region as of September 1, 2025 amounted to 822.7 thousand people, including 523.4 thousand people (63.6%) – urban, 299.3 thousand people (36.4%) – rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January-August 2025 amounted to 164 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 664 people).
The number of births as January-August 2025 amounted to 5427 people (12.6% less than in January-August 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 5263 people (5.1% less than in January-August 2024).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 3022 people (in January-August 2024 – -3506 people), including in external migration – 180 people (117 people), in internal migration – -3202 people (-3623 people).
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 21029 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 10146 people or 2.2% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 381146 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 12.9%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2025 was 102.7%.
In the I quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 215147 tenge, which is 16.5% higher than in I quarter 2024, the index of real monetary income for the specified period is 107.3%.
The volume of industrial production in January-September 2025 amounted to 2403730.6 million tenge in current prices, which is 6.4% more than in in January-September 2024.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes increased by 2.3%, in the manufacturing industry – by 8.1%. In the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning, production volumes decreased by 3.1%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 5.6%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-September 2025 amounted to 537514.3 million tenge or 109% by January-September 2024.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-September 2025 amounted to 21773 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 109.3% compared to January-September 2024.
The volume of passenger traffic – 840.6 million p-km, or 59.3% by January-September 2024.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 256024.3 million tenge or 123.5% compared to January-September 2024.
In January-September 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 3.2% and amounted to 391 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 23.8% (318.3 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 37.6% (72.5 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2025 amounted to 448810.7 million tenge or 113.6% by January-September 2024.
The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 14746 units and decreased by 1.2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14366 units with less than 100 employees.
The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12851 units, including 12474 units - small businesses.
The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11427 units and decreased by 1.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 2014299.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2024, real GRP increased by 107.9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 46.6%, services – 50.3%.
The consumer price index in September 2025 compared to December 2024 was 109.1%.
Prices for food products increased by 9.4%, non-food products – by 7.2%, paid services for the population – by 10.9%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 7.2%.
The volume of retail trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 537243.6 million tenge, or 3.6% more than the corresponding period in 2024.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 952043.5 million tenge, or 118.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
According to preliminary data, in January-August 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 910.8 million US dollars and decreased by 15.8% compared to January-August 2024, including exports – 303.9 million US dollars (by 25% less), imports – 606.9 million US dollars (10.3% less).
