The population of the Kostanay region as of June 1, 2026 amounted to 820 thousand people, including 525.4 thousand people (64.1%) – urban, 294.6 thousand people (35.9%) – rural residents.
The natural decline in the population in January-May 2026 amounted to 371 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year the natural increase in the population – 170 people).
The number of births as January-May 2026 amounted to 3027 people (9.6% less than in January-May 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 3398 people (7% more than in January-May 2025).
The balance of migration is negative and amounted to 1103 people (in January-May 2025 – -1639 people), including in external migration – 95 people (129 people), in internal migration – -1198 people (-1768 people).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 20447 people.
The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2026 amounted to 10128 people or 2.3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 394942 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10.1%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 98.9%.
The volume of industrial production in January-June 2026 amounted to 1570178.9 million tenge in current prices, which is 2.3% more than in January-June 2025.
In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes decreased by 9.1%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 3.8%. In the manufacturing industry the production amounted to increased by 6.4%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 6.7%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-June 2026 amounted to 122500 million tenge or 105.5% by January-June 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2026 amounted to 12443.3 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 100.2% compared to January-June 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 872.7 million p-km, or 162.7% by January-June 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 169758.3 million tenge or 126% compared to January-June 2025.
In January-June 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 2.2% and amounted to 261.8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 4.4% (218.4 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 11.9% (41.2 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2026 amounted to 296010.3 million tenge or 102.9% by January-June 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2026 amounted to 14699 units and decreased by 0.2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14322 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12706 units, including 12329 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11371 units and decreased by 0.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2026 amounted to 1167700.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2025, real GRP increased by 102.8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 47%, services – 49.2%.
The consumer price index in June 2026 compared to December 2025 was 105.2%.
Prices for food products increased by 5.1 %, non-food products – by 5.2%, paid services for the population – by 5.3%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 0.6%.
The volume of retail trade in January-June 2026 amounted to 361452.9 million tenge, or 5% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2026 amounted to 610798.2 million tenge, or 101.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-May 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 601.6 million US dollars and increased by 6.4% compared to January-May 2025, including exports – 220.7 million US dollars (by 4.3% more), imports – 380.9 million US dollars (7.6% more).
