Population size and migration

The population of the region as of November 1, 2024 amounted to 788.2 thousand people, including 449.9 thousand people (57.1%) - urban, 338.3 thousand people (42.9) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-October 2024 amounted to 2648 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 3620 people).

The number of births as January-October 2024 amounted to 8513 people (7.9% less than in January-October 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 5865 people (4.4% more than in January-October 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to-2452 people (in January-October 2023 – -3291 people), including in external migration positive balance of 831 people (-617 people), in internal-negative 3283 people (-2674 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 19 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4.5% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 6520 people, or 1.5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 328210 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2023 amounted to 12.5%.

The real wage index in III quarter 2024 was 103.6%.

In the II quarter of 2024 the average per capital nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 184469 tenge, which is 10.8% higher than in II quarter 2023, the monetary incomes of the population in real terms increased by the specified period is 1.7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-November 2024 amounted to 1780852.2 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.6% less than in January-November 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 0.2%, in the manufacturing industry - by 1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an increase of 6.2%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 3.6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-November 2024 amounted to 896202.7 million tenge, or 145% by January-November 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-November 2024 amounted to 23766.6 million tkm (accounting for the amount of work performed by individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 97% compared to January-November 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 1214.5 million pkm, or 102.6% by January-November 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 260953,5 million tenge, or 113,8% by January-November 2023.

In January-November 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 4.6% and amounted to 561 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings by 2.2% (287.7 thousand square meters) increased, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 15.1% (258.7 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-November 2024 amounted to 458853,9 million tenge, or 84.8% by January-November 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 14902 units and decreased by 0.2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14561 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12354 units, including 12016 units –small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11666 units and increased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2024 amounted to 1604314.2 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2023, real GRP increased by 101.4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 47.6%, services – 45.7%.

The consumer price index in November 2024 compared to December 2023 was 108.2%. Prices for food products increased by 5.6%, non-food products – by 7.8%, paid services for the population – by 13.5%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in November 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 23.9%.

The volume of retail trade in January-November 2024 amounted to 449509.4 million tenge, or 4.3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-November 2024 amounted to 712317.3 million tenge, or 113.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-October 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 508.5 million US dollars, including exports – 165.1 million dollars, imports – 343.4 million US dollars.
