Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2025 amounted to 787.3 thousand people, including 452.0 thousand people (57.4%) - urban, 335.3 thousand people (42.6%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January – March 2025 amounted to 369 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 695 people).

The number of births as January - March 2025 amounted to 1994 people (22% less than in January - March 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 1625 people (12.8%more than in January - March 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - 297 people (in January - March 2024 –-153 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of - 68 people (742 people), in internal - negative - 365 people (-895 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 19.4 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2025 amounted to 7662 people, or 1.8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 343471 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 9.6%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2025 was 98.9%.

In the IV quarter of 2024 the average per capital nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 203825 tenge, which is 9.7% higher than in IV quarter 2023, the monetary incomes of the population in real terms increased by the specified period is 0.8%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2025 amounted to 755998.1 million tenge in current prices, which is 3% more than in January-April 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 0.6%, in the manufacturing industry increased by 4.5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an decreased by 6.6%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by 8.7%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2025 amounted to 99822.1 million tenge, or 107,5% by January-April 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2025 amounted to 8275.7 million tkm (accounting for the amount of work performed by individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 101.3% compared to January-April 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 218.3 million pkm, or 55.9% by January-April 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 43922.2 million tenge, or 171.6% by January-April 2024.

In January- April 2025 the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 19% and amounted to 134.8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings decreasedby 39.6% (44.2 thousand square meters), the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 7% (90.6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- April 2025 amounted to 131297.1 million tenge, or 112.8% by January- April 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2025 amounted to 14992 units and decreased by 0.8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14657 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12291 units, including 11960 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11632 units and decreased by 0,1% increased to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product according to preliminary data for 2024 amounted to 4 093 997,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, real GRP increased by 110%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 55.9%, services – 41.8%.

Consumer price index April 2025 by December 2024 amounted to 105.1%, including for food products – 106.1%, non-food – 102.9%, paid services to the population – 106.6%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2025 compared to December 2024 incresed by 14.7%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2025 amounted to 137666.6 million tenge, or 5.1% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2025 amounted to 270749.6 million tenge, or 174% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January- March 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 138.2 million US dollars, including exports – 40.2 million dollars, imports – 98 million US dollars.
