Population size and migration

The population of the region as of Jule 1, 2024 amounted to 789 thousand people, including 448.4 thousand people (56.8%) - urban, 340.6 thousand people (43.2%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-Jyne 2024 amounted to 1560 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year -2049 people).

The number of births as January-Jyne 2024 amounted to 5138 people (5.6% less than in January-Jyne 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3578 people (5.3% more than in January-Jyne 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -521 people (in January-Jyne 2023–-1385 people), including in external migration positive balance of 790 people (-137 people), in internal-negative -1311 people (-1248 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 19.6 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4.6% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of August 1, 2024 amounted to 7984 people, or 1.9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 330230 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 10.8%.

The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 101.7%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capital nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 174116 tenge, which is 15% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 5.1%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-July 2024 amounted to 1066425.9 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.2% less than in January-July 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 2.1%, in the manufacturing industry - by 1.2%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an increase of 17.3%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 6.6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-Jule 2024 amounted to 186039 million tenge, or 100.8% by January-Jule 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-July 2024 amounted to 14622.4 million tkm (accounting for the amount of work performed by individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 94.6% compared to January-July 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 767.6 million pkm, or 103.7% by January-July 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 103823,7 million tenge, or 102,1% by January-July 2023.

In January-July 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 20.4% and amounted to 276.7 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 23.9% (120.9 thousand square meters), the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 21.8% (147.3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-July 2024 amounted to 244305.7 million tenge, or 73.7% by January-July 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of August 1, 2024 amounted to 14910 units and decreased by 1.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14569units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12238 units, including 11901units –small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11662 units and decreased by 0,9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 763320.1 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-March 2023, real GRP increased by 102.3%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 45.1%, services – 48.3%.

The consumer price index in July 2024 compared to December 2023 was 104.9%. Prices for food products increased by 3%, non-food products – by 3.9%, paid services for the population– by 9.8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in July 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 14.2%.

The volume of retail trade in January-July 2024 amounted to 225591.7 million tenge, or 2.1% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-July 2024 amounted to 377683.2 million tenge, or 100.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-June 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 278.9 million US dollars and decreased by 15,1% compared to January-June 2023, including exports – 86.8 million US dollars (by 10.2% less), imports – 231.8 million US dollars (17.1% less).
