Population size and migration

The population of the region as of September 1, 2025 amounted to 689,6 thousand people, including 310,8   thousand people (45,0% ) - urban, 378,8 thousand people (55,0%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in August 2025 amounted to 470 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year   604 people).

The number of births as August 2025 amounted to 867 people (13 % less than in August 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 397 people (1 % less than in August 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to – 1387 people (in August 2024 - 770 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of   81 people (-72), in internal – 1468 people and (-761).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 14033 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4,7% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of September 1, 2025 amounted to 2333 people, or 4,9 % of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the June II quarter of 2025 amounted to 355 644 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 18,4%. The real wage index in II quarter 2025 was 106,1%.

In the I quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 156 008 tenge, which is 15,0 % higher than in I quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 105,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-September 2025 amounted to 283 087, 3 million tenge in current prices, which is 3,2% more than in January- September 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 17,6%, in the manufacturing industry volumes increased by-2,3% in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 16,3% in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination of waste decreased by 4,2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-September 2025 amounted to 324 059,9 million tenge, or 100,2 % by January-September 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January- September 2025 amounted to 11 855,51 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 142,4% compared to January- September 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 467,9 million pkm, or 105,4% by January- September 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 249882,5 million tenge, or 113.9% compared to                                  January-September 2024.

In January- September 2025 the total area of housing put into operation increased by 9% and amounted to                                  249,4 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings decreased by – 15,3% (85,2 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings increased by 25,9% (161,2 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- September 2025 amounted to 330251,8 million tenge, or 112,7% by January- September 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 8 585 units and increased by 2,6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 349 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 7 060 units, including 6 826 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 521 units and increased by 3,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 957421,0 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January June 2024, real GRP increased by 8,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 31,9%, services – 58,5%.

The consumer price index in September   2025 compared to December 2024 was 109,9%.

Prices for food products increased by 10,4%, non-food products – by 10,0%, paid services for the population – by 8,7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 6,7%.

The volume of retail trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 236 777,7 million tenge, or 3,5% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- September 2025 amounted to 479 298,7 million tenge, or 0,4% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-August 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 79 913 thousand US dollars and decreased by 12,5% compared to January-August 2024, including exports –41 807,7 thousand US dollars (by 16,3 % less), imports – 38 105,2 thousand US dollars (7,8% less).
