Population size and migration

The population of the region as of February 1, 2025 amounted to 694,0 thousand people, including 311,2 thousand people (44,8% ) - urban, 382,4 thousand people (55,1%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January 2025 amounted to 363 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year   595 people).

The number of births as January 2025 amounted to 772 people (29,4 % less than in January 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 409 people (17,9 % more than in January 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - 1192 people (in January 2024 - 1258 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of   3 people (8), in internal – 1200 people and (-1261).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 15173 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of March 1, 2025 amounted to 1153 people, or 4,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 314398 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 9,1%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2024 was 100,7%.

In the IIІ quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 141318 tenge, which is 9,4% higher than in IIІ quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 100,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-February 2025 amounted to 54 503,6 million tenge in current prices, which is 20,9 more than in January February 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 47,2 %, in the manufacturing industry volumes by 21,1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning by 13,9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities by – 0,9%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-February 2025 amounted to 17 576,5 million tenge, or 102,4 % by January-February 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-February 2025 amounted to 2 132,7 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 111,1% compared to January-February 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 80,3 million pkm, or 87,3% by January-February 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 10 742,6 million tenge, or 167,0 % compared to January-February 2024.

In January- February 2025, the total area of housing put into operation decrease by 28,6 % and amounted to 28,5 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings decreased by – 67,5 % (7,1 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 18,4% (21,4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- February 2025 amounted to 35 301,7 million tenge, or 137,5 % by January- February 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of March 1, 2025 amounted to 8 408 units and increased by 2,6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 175 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 6 875 units, including 6 644 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 360 units and increased by 3,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to 1 402 035,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- September 2023, real GRP increased by 16,1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 37,0 %, services – 56,3%.

The consumer price index in February 2025 compared to December 2024 was 102,0%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,3%, non-food products – by 1,7%, paid services for the population – by 1,9%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in February 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 1,5%.

The volume of retail trade in January-February 2025 amounted to 43 390,7 million tenge, or 4,8% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-February 2025 amounted to 51 949,3 million tenge, or 4,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 5 141,0 thousand US dollars and decreased by 47,1% compared to January 2024, including exports –3 724,9 thousand US dollars (by 42% less), imports – 1 416,1 thousand US dollars (57,1% less).
