Population size and migration

The population of the region as of October 1, 2024 amounted to 696,1  thousand people, including 311,8  thousand   people (44,7% ) - urban, 384,3 thousand people (55,2%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-September 2024 amounted to 5716 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year   6449 people).

The number of births  as January- September 2024 amounted to 9477 people (6,6 % less than in January- September 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3761  people (1,7 % more than in January- September 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - 7591 people (in January- September  2023 - 6531  people), including in external migration - a positive balance of   -13 people (+17), in internal  – 7578 people and (-6548).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 15070 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October  1, 2024 amounted to 13989  people, or 4,5 % of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IIІ quarter of 2024 amounted to 280464 tenge, an increase compared to the IІI quarter of 2023 amounted to 8,0%.

The real wage index in IІI quarter 2024 was 99,6%.

In the II quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 135535  tenge, which is 9,1% higher than in II quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 100,2%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January- October 2024 amounted to 278 848,4 million tenge in current prices, which is 3,9% more than in January- October 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 22,6%, in the manufacturing industry volumes increased by 3,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there fell by 0,2 %, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities which is - by 9,3%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-October 2024 amounted to 362 356,8 million tenge, or 104,9 % by January-October 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January- Оctober 2024 amounted to 9 271,7million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 79.0% compared to January- Оctober 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 492,7 million pkm, or 88,5% by January- Оctober  2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 231 115,9 million tenge, or 134,6 % compared to                                  January-October  2023.

In January- October 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4,1 % and amounted to 247,6 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings decreased by – 18,0% (100.7  thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 30,5% (146,9 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- October 2024 amounted to 327 125,9 million tenge, or 130,8% by January- October 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of November 1, 2024 amounted to 8 369 units and increased by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 135 units with less than 100 employees.          The number of operating legal entities amounted to 6 631 units, including 6 399 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 296 units and increased by 0,8 % compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2024 amounted to 781 003,4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- June 2023, real GRP increased by 6,2%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 33,5 %, services – 53,1%.

The consumer price index in October 2024 compared to December 2023 was 106,6%.

Prices for food products increased by 5,5%, non-food products – by 4,2%, paid services for the population – by 12,2%.                 The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in October 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 4,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January- Оctober 2024 amounted to 233 579,1 million tenge, or 23,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- October 2024 amounted to 476 692,0 million tenge, or 46,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January- September 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 99 066,9 million US dollars and decreased by 13,3% compared to January- September 2023, including exports –54 832,9 million US dollars (by 25,2% less), imports – 44 234,0 million US dollars (8,0% more).
