Population size and migration

The population of the region as of August 1, 2024 amounted to 696,6 thousand people, including 311,6  thousand   people (44,7% ) - urban, 385,0 thousand people (55,3%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-July  2024 amounted to 4448 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 4962 people).

The number of births  as January- July 2024 amounted to 7429  people (5,3% less than in January- July 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 2981  people (3,5 % more than in January- July 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - 5846 people (in January- July  2023 - -4603 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of -  +82 people (+25), in internal - negative - 5928 people and (-4628).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 14979 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,9% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of August  1, 2024 amounted to 16531  people, or 5,4% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IІ quarter of 2024 amounted to 300393 tenge, an increase compared to the IІ quarter of 2023 amounted to 9,6%. The real wage index in IІ quarter 2024 was 100,6%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 129531 tenge, which is 14,8% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 104,7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January- August 2024 amounted to 212 897,3 million tenge in current prices, which is 1.8% more than in January- August 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 69,1%, in the manufacturing industry volumes decreased - by 1,4 %, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 8.7%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 11,1%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-August 2024 amounted to 165 581.3 million tenge, or 102.4 % by January-August 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-August 2024 amounted to 7 400.4 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 79.1% compared to January- August 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 400.9 million pkm, or 89.7% by January- August 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 136 262,2 million tenge, or 132,7% compared to January-August 2023.

In January- August 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 20.6 % and amounted to 150.2 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings increased by – 38% (54.5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 16.0% (95.7 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- August 2024 amounted to 218 400.1 million tenge, or 134.6% by January- August 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 8 331 units and increased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 101 units with less than 100 employees.          The number of operating legal entities amounted to 6 495 units, including 6 267 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 246 units and increased by 1,3 % compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 392 798.7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- March 2023, real GRP increased by 8.7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 30.0%, services – 63.4%.

The consumer price index in August 2024 compared to December 2023 was 105.6%.

Prices for food products increased by 5.1%, non-food products – by 3.0%, paid services for the population – by 9.9%.                 The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in August 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 5.5%.

The volume of retail trade in January- August 2024 amounted to 179 398.7  million tenge, or 28.7 % more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- August 2024 amounted to 374 397.6 million tenge, or 48.7 % compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January- Jule 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 74 276.9 million US dollars and decreased by 21.1 % compared to January- Jule 2023, including exports –38 960.8 million US dollars (by 34.6 % less), imports – 35 316.1 million US dollars (2.1 % more).
