Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 686,0 thousand people, including 315,2   thousand people    (46,0% ) - urban, 370,8 thousand people (54,0%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in April 2026 amounted to 423 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year   481 people).

The number of births as April 2026 amounted to 824 people (12,6% increased than in April 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 401 people (13,2 % less than in April 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to – 937 people (in April 2025 - 829 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of   89 people (85), in internal – 1026 people and (-914).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 13 889 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of May, 2026 amounted to 17 168   people, or 5,7% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 346 199 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 112,2%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 100,0%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 179 210 tenge, which is 16,9 % higher than in IV quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 103,8%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-May 2026 amounted to 186 226,0 million tenge in current prices, which is 27,6% more than in January- May 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes rose by 114,1%, in the manufacturing industry volumes increased by 26,8%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning rose by 16,5%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by – 7,4%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-May 2026 amounted to 71091,7 million tenge, or 101,4 % by January-May 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-May 2026 amounted to 5834,5million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or, 105,8% compared to January- May 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic – 248,2million pkm, or 114,0 % by January- May 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 63101,5 million tenge, or 76,8% compared to January- May 2025.

In January- May 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 12,7% and amounted to 98,3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings it decreased by – 49,8% (14,5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 51,4% (83,8 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- May 2026 amounted to 99989.3 million tenge, or 68,6% by January- May 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of June 1, 2026 amounted to 8 579 units and increased by 1,0% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 343 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 7 273 units, including 7 039 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 595 units and increased by 2,3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January- December 2025 amounted to 2450790,8 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- December 2024, real GRP increased by 5,8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 39,3%, services – 53,4%.

The consumer price index in May 2026 compared to December 2025 was 104,2%.

Prices for food products increased by 4,7%, non-food products – by 3,9%, paid services for the population – by 3,6%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in May   2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 9,0%.

The volume of retail trade in January- May 2026 amounted to 123811,0million tenge, or 2,7% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- May 2026 amounted to 174082,7million tenge, or 91,4% less than the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in April 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 8792,7 thousand US dollars and umenshilas by 67,3% compared to April 2025, including exports – 2949,2 thousand US dollars (by 47,6% less), imports – 5843,4 thousand US dollars (by 85,1% less).
