Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of Marth 1, 2026 amounted to 686,8 thousand people, including 315,6   thousand people (46,0% ) - urban, 371,2 thousand people (54,0%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in February 2026 amounted to 426 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year   489 people).

The number of births as February 2026 amounted to 773 people (15,2% increased than in February 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 347 people (18,0 % less than in February 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to – 718 people (in February 2025 - 1037 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of   70 people (54), in internal – 788 people and (-1091).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 14199 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4,7% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of Marth 1, 2026 amounted to 15 903 people, or 5,3 % of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 349 593 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 111,2%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2025 was 98,8%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 179 210 tenge, which is 16,9 % higher than in IV quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 103,5%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2026 amounted to 102 848,6 million tenge in current prices, which is 30,1 more than in January- March 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes rose by 191,7%, in the manufacturing industry volumes increased by 26,6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning rose by 18,7%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by – 7,6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-March 2026 amounted to 43 863,9 million tenge, or 101,8 % by January-March 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January- March 2026 amounted to 3608,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or, 116,1% compared to January 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic – 146,9 million pkm, or 117,8 % by January- March 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 31471,9 million tenge, or 86,9% compared to January-March 2025.

In January-March 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4 % and amounted to 54,9 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2026 amounted to 45579 million tenge, or 69,6% by January-March 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 8 561 units and increased by 1,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 325 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 7 230 units, including 6 996 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 571 units and increased by 2,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 1 665 187,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- September 2024, real GRP increased by 6,8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 34,9%, services – 56,3%.

The consumer price index in March   2026 compared to December 2025 was 102,8%.

Prices for food products increased by 3,1%, non-food products – by 2,1%, paid services for the population – by 3,1%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 3,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January- March 2026 amounted to 72535,4 million tenge, or 2,1% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- March 2026 amounted to 101412,2 million tenge, or 5,0% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in February 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 10 575,6 thousand US dollars and decreased by 123,1% compared to January 2025, including exports – 4 637,1 thousand US dollars (by 106,9% less), imports – 5 938,5 thousand US dollars (139,7% more).
