Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of July, 2026 amounted to 512 thousand people, including 258,1 thousand people (50,4%) – urban, 253,9 thousand people (49,6%) – rural residents.

The natural decline in the population in January-June 2026 amounted to -829 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – -745 people).

The number of births as January-June 2026 amounted to 2114 people (6,2% less in January-June 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 2943 people (1,9% less than in January-June 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -1321 people (in January-June 2025– -3377 people), including in external migration –-18(-77), in internal –-1303 people (-3300 people).

Labor

The number of unemployed in the IІ quarter of 2026 amounted to 11,1 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,2% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered in Career Centers as unemployed as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 5303 people, or 2% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 326664 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 8,9%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 95,6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-July 2026 amounted to 553209,6 million tenge in current prices, which is 17% more than in January-July 2025. In the manufacturing industry, production volumes increased by 16%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air – by 29,5%, in water supply, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, activities for the elimination of pollution – by 14,3%. In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 4.4%,

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-July 2026 amounted to 149709,2 milliontenge, or 105% by January-July 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-July 2026 amounted to 5219,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 99,6% compared to January- July 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic – 309.2 million pkm, or 109,3% by January-July 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 99274,3 million tenge, or 100,7% compared to January-July 2025.

In January-July 2026, the total area of commissioned housing increased by 6,3% and amounted to 116,7 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment residential buildings – by 1,8 times (61,9 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of commissioned individual residential buildings decreased by 36,7% (54,7 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-July 2026 amounted to 275964,9 million tenge, or 101,8% by January-July 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 10951 units and decreased by 2,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 10684 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9027 units, including 8760 units – small businesses.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8100 units and decreased by 3,9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2026 amounted to 615671,2 million tenge at current prices. GRP increased by 12,9% in real terms compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 41,6%, services – 52,9%.

The consumer price index in July 2026 compared to December 2025 was 106,5%.

Prices for food products increased by 6%, non-food products – by 7,5%, paid services for the population – by 6,1%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in July 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2,9%.

The volume of retail trade in January-July 2026 amounted to 274542,5 million tenge, or 1,3% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-July 2026 amounted to 509268,5 million tenge, or 129,5% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-June 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 371,5 million US dollars and increased by 41,9% compared to January-June 2025, including exports – 38,1 million US dollars (21,5% more by), imports – 333,4 million US dollars (44,7% more by).
