Population size and migration

The population of the region as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 524,7 thousand people, including 258,1 thousand people (49,2%) – urban, 266,6 thousand people (50,8%) – rural residents.

The natural decline in the population in January-August 2024 amounted to -609 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year –-99 people).

The number of births as January-August 2024 amounted to 3414 people (9,9% less than in January-August 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 4023 people (3,4% more than in January-August 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -4813 people (in January-August 2023 – -2287 people), including in external migration –-1543 people (-42), in internal –-3270 people and (-2245).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 12,7 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October 1, 2024 amounted to 4856 people, or 1,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 297303 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 8,6%.

The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 99,5%.

In the II quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 186825 tenge, which is 4,4% higher than in II quarter 2023, real cash income for the specified period decreased by 4,4%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-September 2024 amounted to 486609,1 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,4% lower than in January-September 2023.

In the manufacturing industry, production volumes increased by 0,6%, in the mining industry – by 0,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air production volumes decreased by 6,3%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities – by 10,2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-September 2024 amounted to 583246 million tenge, or 115,4% by January-September 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-September 2024 amounted to 7431,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 87,5% compared to January-September 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 499,2 million pkm, or 89,1% by January-September 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 135388,7 million tenge, or 126,6% compared to January-September 2023.
In January-September 2024, the total area of commissioned housing increased by 19% and amounted to 163,9 thousand square meters, of which in individual residential buildings – 25,4% (101,2 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of commissioned multi-apartment buildingsdecreased by 32,7% (35,6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2024 amounted to 316039,6 million tenge, or 106,4% by January-September 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2024 amounted to 11439 units and decreased by 1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 11186 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9262 units, including 9009 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8602 units and decreased by 1,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2024 amounted to 965108.2 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, real GRP increased by 6,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 36%, services – 57,3%.

The consumer price index in September 2024 compared to December 2023 was 106,1%.

Prices for food products increased by 3,5%, non-food products – by 6,5%, paid services for the population – by 9,4%.               

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2024 compared to December2023 increased by 5,5%.

The volume of retail trade in January-September 2024 amounted to 295677,6 million tenge, or 2,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-September2024 amounted to 416870,4 million tenge, or 110,6% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-August 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 448 million US dollars and increased by 5,8% compared to January-August 2023, including exports – 79,6 million US dollars (by 9,8% less), imports – 368,3 million US dollars (9,9% more).
