Population size and migration

The population of the region as of December 1, 2025 amounted to 514,7 thousand people, including 258,1 thousand people (50,2%) – urban, 256,6 thousand people (49,8%) – rural residents.

The natural decline in the population in January-November 2025 amounted to -1236 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – -853 people).

The number of births as January-November 2025 amounted to 4193 people (10,3% less than in January-November 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 5429 people (1,8% less than in January-November 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -6203 people (in January-November 2024 – -6541 people), including in external migration –-209 (-1697), in internal –-5994 people (-4844 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 11,8 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered in Career Centers as unemployed as of January 1, 2026 amounted to 2583 people, or 1% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 317302 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 10,6%.

The real wage index in III quarter 2025 was 98,1%.

In the III quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 207096 tenge, which is 3,5% higher than in III quarter 2024. The real money income index for the specified period was 91,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2025 amounted to 942366,6 million tenge in current prices, which is 19,9 % more than in 2024. In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 8,6%, in the manufacturing industry – by 23,2%. In the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air, production volumes decreased by 0,3%, in water supply, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, activities for the elimination of pollution – by 5,7%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-December 2025 amounted to 1106550,3 milliontenge, or 110,2% by 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2025 amounted to 10566,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 103,9% compared to January-December 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 489,4 million pkm, or 69,3% by January-December 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 289416 million tenge, or 127% compared to 2024.

In January-December 2025, the total area of commissioned housing increased by 2,4% and amounted to 338 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 1,7 times (170,6 thousand square meters). Тhe total area of commissioned individual residential buildings decreased by 17% (167,4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2025 amounted to 608990,7 million tenge, or 103,9% by 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2026 amounted to 11155 units and decreased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 10892 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9154 units, including 8891 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8320 units and decreased by 0,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 1054876,9 million tenge at current prices. GRP increased by 4,9% in real terms compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 40,8%, services – 54,9%.

The consumer price index in December 2025 compared to December 2024 was 114,2%.

Prices for food products increased by 15,4%, non-food products – by 11,2%, paid services for the population – by 16,7%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 9,3%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 448355,7 million tenge, or 1,4% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 728506,2 million tenge, or 120,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 562,9 million US dollars and decreased by 17,4% compared to January-November 2024, including exports – 58,5 million US dollars (by 45,1% less), imports – 504,4 million US dollars (12,3% less).
