Population size and migration

The population of the region as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 513,4 thousand people, including 258,1 thousand people (50,3%) – urban, 255,3 thousand people (49,7%) – rural residents.

The natural decline in the population in January-February 2026 amounted to -218 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – -350 people).

The number of births as January-February 2026 amounted to 691 people (2% less in January-February 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 909 people (13,8% less than in January-February 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -528 people (in January-February 2025 – -1290 people), including in external migration –20 (-13), in internal – -548 people (-1277 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 11,5 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered in Career Centers as unemployed as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 4864 people, or 1,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 356848 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 13,1%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2025 was 99,5%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 223880 tenge, which is 5,5% higher than in IV quarter 2024. The real money income index for the specified period was 92,8%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2026 amounted to 249506,9 million tenge in current prices, which is 36,8% more than in January-March 2025. In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 21%, in the manufacturing industry – by 39,8%,in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air – by 18,1%, in water supply, collection, treatment and disposal of waste, activities for the elimination of pollution – by 34,5%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-March 2026 amounted to 42100,5 milliontenge, or 103,8% by January-March 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-March 2026 amounted to 2345 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 95,2% compared to January- March 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic –117,2 million pkm, or 101,8% by January-March 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 18851,1 million tenge, or 99,6% compared to January-March 2025.

In January-March 2026, the total area of commissioned housing increased by 2,5% and amounted to 31,3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment residential buildings – by 3,6 times (2 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of commissioned individual buildings decreased by 2,2% (29,3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2026 amounted to 78306,1 million tenge, or 95,6% by January-March 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 11000 units and decreased by 1,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 10738 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9089 units, including 8827 units – small businesses.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8171 units and decreased by 2,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 2028021,9 million tenge at current prices. GRP increased by 6,2% in real terms compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 46,8%, services – 49,8%.

The consumer price index in March 2026 compared to December 2025 was 102,9%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,6%, non-food products – by 3,3%, paid services for the population – by 2,8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 1,2%.

The volume of retail trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 100804,6 million tenge, or 0,6% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 168252,9 million tenge, or 136,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-February 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 147,3 million US dollars and increased by 75,9% compared to January-February 2025, including exports – 8,6 million US dollars (by 14,4% less), imports – 138,7 million US dollars (88,2% more by).
