Summary of the socio-economic development of the region

The population of the region as of August 1 2023 amounted to 532.2 thousand people, including 259.3 thousand people
(48.7% ) - urban, 272.9 thousand people (51.3% ) - rural residents.

The natural decrease in the population in January-July 2023 amounted to minus 127 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - minus 493 people). In January-July 2023 3312 newborns were registered, which is similar to January-July 2022, deaths - by 9.6% less.

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -1767 people (in January-July 2022 – - 2970 people), including in external migration - positive 21 (-919), in internal - negative – -1788 people (-2051 people).

Living standards statistics

The average per capita nominal cash income of the population, according to estimates in the I quarter of 2023, amounted to 148422 tenge. Compared to the corresponding period of 2022, cash income increased by 17.7% in nominal terms, and decreased by 2.6% in real terms.

Labor market and remuneration

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 13.7 thousand people. The unemployment rate was 4.8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of the end of August 2023 amounted to 5232 people, or 1.8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wage accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 273814 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2022 was 17.6%. The real wage index in the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 100.5%.

Price statistics

The consumer price index in August 2023 compared to December 2022 was 107%. Prices for food products increased by 6.9%, non-food products - by 6.7%, paid services for the population - by 7.8%. Prices of manufacturers of industrial products in August 2023, compared with December 2022, decreased by 0.2%.


The volume of retail trade in January-August 2023 amounted to 236707.2 million tenge, or 6.4% more than the corresponding period in 2022.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-August 2023 amounted to 333243.2 million tenge, or 106.5% compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

According to preliminary data, in January-July 2023, the volume of mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 368.8 million US dollars and, compared to January-July 2022, more by 13.1%, including exports – 77.3 million US dollars (more by 43%), imports -291.5 million US dollars (more by 7.2%).

Real sector of the economy

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2023 amounted to 404716.5 million tenge at current prices, or 109.7% compared to the levell of the corresponding period of 2022. In the GRP structure for January-March 2023. the production of services – 64.5%, the production of goods amounted to 35.5%.

The volume of industrial production in January-August 2023 amounted to 388290 million tenge in current prices, which is 10.6% more than in January-August 2022.

In the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning production volumes increased by 17.5%, in the mining and quarrying industry – by 13.1%, in the manufacturing industry - by 10%. In the water supply; collection, treatment and disposal of waste, activities for the elimination of pollution volumes decreased by 0.1%.

The volume of gross output (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in January-August 2023 amounted to 328185.6 million tenge, which is 0.1% more than in January-August 2022.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 64265.4 million tenge, or 114.9% compared to January-August 2022.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-August 2023 amounted to 7528.1 million tkm (taking into account the estimated volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 116.8% compared to January-August 2022 The volume of passenger traffic – 501.3 million pkm, or 123.6 % by January-August 2022.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-August 2023 amounted to 224489.1 million tenge, or 107.6% by January-August 2022.

Enterprise statistics

The number of registered legal entities as of September 1 2023 amounted to 11522 units and increased by 3.9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, of which 11271 units have less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 9588 units, including 9337 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8688 units and increased by 5.1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
