Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 710,9 thousand people, including 391 thousand people (55% ) - urban, 319,9 thousand people (45%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-December 2024 amounted to 11489 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 13053 people).

The number of births as January- December 2024 amounted to 15159 people (8,32% less than in January- December 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3670 people (5,4% more than in January- December 2023).

The balance of migration amounted to - -4687 people (in January- December 2023 -- -2054 people), including in external migration - 678 people (502), in internal - -5365 people (-2556).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 17477 people. The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of February 1, 2025 amounted to 17307 people, or 4,7% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 640938 tenge, an increased compared to the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 8,3%. The real wage index in IV quarter 2024 was 99,8%.

In the III quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 336743 tenge, which is 4.8% higher than in III quarter 2023, real cash income for the specified period decreased 3.9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January 2025 amounted to 1030883 million tenge in current prices, or 100% compared to January 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 1,2%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased by 9,1%, in the manufacturing industry increased by – 12,2%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was increased by 10,2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January 2025 amounted to 4064,6 million tenge, or 112,7% by January 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January 2025 amounted to 5020,4   million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 129,2% compared to January 2024.

The The volume of passenger traffic – 516,7 million pkm, or 150,4% by January 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 18398,7 million tenge, or 41,3% or than in January 2024.

In January 2025, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 9,3% and amounted to 27,5 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation amounted decreased by 13,5% (26,3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January 2025 amounted to 100940 million tenge, or 50,7% compared to January 2024.

Number of registered legal entities as of February   1, 2025 amounted to 14531 units and decreased by 0.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14133 units with less than 100 employees.The number of operating legal entities amounted to 11384 units, among which 10986 units are small enterprises.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12475 units and decreased by 1% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-september 2024 amounted to (according to operational data) 9864759.3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-september 2023, real GRP amounted to 95.1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 57,5%, services – 33,9%.

The consumer price index in january2025 compared to December 2024 was 102,2%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 5,5%,food products – by 1,2%,non-food products - by 0,9%,

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in january 2025 compared to December 2024 decreasedby 2,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January 2025 amounted to 39316,7 million tenge, or 11,8% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January 2025 amounted to 515786,4 million tenge, or 91% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January- December 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 356 million US dollars and decreased by 9.6% compared to January-December 2023, including exports – 92.8 million US dollars (by 4.3% more), imports – 263.2 million US dollars (13.7% less).
