Population size and migration

The population of the region as of August 1, 2024 amounted to 708,6 thousand people, including 390,6 thousand people (55,1% ) - urban, 317,9 thousand people (44,9%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- July 2024 amounted to 6865 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 7425 people).

The number of births as January-July 2024 amounted to 8990 people (4.6% less than in January- July 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 2125 people (6.6% more than in January- July 2023).

The balance of migration amounted to - -2275 people (in January-July 2023 - -725 people), including in external migration - 371 people (311), in internal  -  -2646 people (-1036).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 17777 people. The unemployment rate was 4,9% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 19046 people, or 5,3% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 594426 tenge, an increased compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 3,7%. The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 95,4%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 362866 tenge, which is 1,8% lower than in I quarter 2023, real cash income for the specified period decreased 10.5%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-August 2024 amounted to 7045117 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.8% less than in January-August 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 1,1%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased by 2.3%, in the manufacturing industry - by 1.1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was increased by 12.2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-August 2024 amounted to 52984.7 million tenge, or 102,7% by January-August 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-august 2024 amounted to 30473,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 103,3% compared to January-august 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 3508,4 million pkm, or 110,1% by January-august 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 480731 million tenge, or 65.2% compared to January-August 2023.

In January-August 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 13.5% and amounted to 416.6 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 5.8% (298.8 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-August 2024 amounted to 1303082 million tenge, or 70.6% by January-August 2023.

Number of registered legal entities as of September   1, 2024 amounted to 14591 units and decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14200 units with less than 100 employees.The number of operating legal entities amounted to 10747 units, among which 10356 units are small enterprises.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12534 units and increase by 0.3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous yearr.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-marcb 2024 amounted to (according to operational data) 3153451.1 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-marcb 2023, real GRP amounted to 98.4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 55,2%, services – 36,1%.

The consumer price index in August  2024 compared to December 2023 was  105,5%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased  by 8,2%,  non-food products  - by 5,9%, food products – by 3,8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in August 2024 compared to December 2023 increased  by 1,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-August 2024 amounted to 350220,6 million tenge, or 6,3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- August 2024 amounted to 4010208,1  million tenge, or 91,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-Jule 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 162,5 million US dollars and decreased by 25,5% compared to January-Jule 2023, including exports – 33,6 million US dollars (by 38,3% less), imports – 128,9 million US dollars (21,2% less).
