Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of February 1, 2026 amounted to 716,4 thousand people, including 393 thousand people (54,9% ) - urban, 323,4 thousand people (45,1%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January 2026 amounted to 877 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 798 people).

The number of births as January 2026 amounted to 1119 people (4,9% more than in January 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 242 people (10% less than in January 2025).

The balance of migration amounted to - -571 people (in January 2025–-358 people), including in external migration - 28 people (0), in internal - -599 people (-358).

Labor

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 17951 people. The unemployment rate was 4,9% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 19349 people, or 5,2% of the labor force.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-February 2026 amounted to 1226282 million tenge in current prices, or 73,6% compared to January-February 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 31%, in the manufacturing industry increased by – 3,4%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was increased by 6,8%, in the supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities by 61% more.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-February 2026 amounted to 11476,2 million tenge, or 101,2% by January-February 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-february 2026 amounted to 8957,1 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 88,1% compared to January- february 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic – 521,3 million pkm, or 51,1% by January- february 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 39078 million tenge, or 102,2% or than in January-February 2025.

In January-February 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 1,3% and amounted to 62 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation amounted increased by 0,3% (60,1 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-February 2026 amounted to 207149 million tenge, or 102,4% compared to January-February 2025.

Number of registered legal entities as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 14767 units and increased by 1.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14382 units with less than 100 employees.The number of operating legal entities amounted to 11926 units, among which 11541 units are small enterprises.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12708 units and increased by 1.7 % compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.


Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-september 2025 amounted to (according to operational data) 11546368,9 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-september 2024, real GRP amounted to 109,6%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 57.4%, services – 30.3%.

The consumer price index in February 2026 compared to December 2025 was 102%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 2.8%, food products, non-food products - by 1.8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2025 compared to February 2026 decreased by 1.9%.

The volume of retail trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 98707,9 million tenge, 3.9% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 812662,7 million tenge, or 82.1% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 28,3 million US dollars and less by 6,3% compared to January 2025, including exports – 7 million US dollars (by 27,4% less), imports –21,3million US dollars (3,5% more).
