Population size and migration

The population of the region as of September 1, 2025 amounted to 713,9 thousand people, including 392,1 thousand people                   (54,9% ) - urban, 321,8 thousand people (45,1%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-August 2025 amounted to 6788 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 7819 people).

The number of births as January - August 2025 amounted to 9100 people (11% less than in January- August 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 2312 people (3,9% less than in January- August 2024).

The balance of migration amounted to - -3636 people (in January- August 2024 - -2899 people), including in external migration - 300 people (425), in internal - -3936 people (-3324).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 18523 people. The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 21044 people, or 5,7% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 585172 tenge, an decreased compared to the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 1.6%. The real wage index in II quarter 2025 was 88,8%.

In the I quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 323307 tenge, which is 0.4% lower than in I quarter 2024, real cash income for the specified period decreased 8.9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-September 2025 amounted to 10849982 million tenge in current prices, or 117,6% compared to January-September 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 19,2%, in the manufacturing industry increased by – 2,4%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was increased by 27,2%, in the supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities by 31,9% less.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-September 2025 amounted to 97281,7 million tenge, or 108,5% by January-September 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-september 2025 amounted to 50821,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 147,5% compared to January- september 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 3989,8 million pkm, or 99,3% by January- september 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 426635 million tenge, or 71,3% or than in January- September 2024.

In January-September 2025, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 0,7% and amounted to 475,8 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation amounted decreased by 3,6% (334,4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2025 amounted to 1065784 million tenge, or 71,6% compared to January-September 2024.

Number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 14765 units and increased by 1.2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14378 units with less than 100 employees.The number of operating legal entities amounted to 11705 units, among which 11318 units are small enterprises.The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12694 units and increased by 2.2 % compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January- june 2025 amounted to (according to operational data) 7485078,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-june 2024, real GRP amounted to 105.8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 58.6%, services – 30.1%.

The consumer price index in September 2025 compared to December 2024 was 111.1%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 15,6%, food products – 10,1%, non-food products - by 8,4%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2025 compared to December 2024 decreased by 7,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 451208.2 million tenge, or 4.4% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 4962298,5 million tenge, or 108.9% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-August 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 259.9 million US dollars and increased by 23.2% compared to January-August 2024, including exports – 60.9 million US dollars (by 22.4% more), imports –199 million US dollars (23.4% more).
