The population of the city as of December 1, 2025 amounted to 1291 thousand people.
The natural increase in the population in January-November 2025 amounted to 20242 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 22264 people).
The number of births in January-November 2025 amounted to 24996 people (7% less than in January-November 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 4754 people (3.1% more than in January-November 2024).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to – 14605 people (in more than in January-November 2024 - 8950 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of – 257 people (579), in internal – positive – 14348 people (8371).
The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 22.4 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4.7% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed of January 1, 2026 amounted to 8685 people, or 1.8% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 336678 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 8.7%. The real wage index in III quarter 2025 was 96.9%.
In the III quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 150789 tenge, which is 8.4% higher than in III quarter 2024, the index of real monetary income for the specified period amounted to 96.6%.
The volume of industrial production in January-December 2025 amounted to 1528799.2 million tenge in current prices, which is 13.3% more than in January-December 2024.
In water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities a decrease production by 41.3%, in the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 15.3%.
In the manufacturing industry increased - by 15.4%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an increase of 4.8%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-December 2025 amounted to 58248.5 million tenge, or 99.3% by January-December 2024.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2025 amounted to 10189.9 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 69.5% compared to January-December 2024.
The volume of passenger traffic – 6430.5 million pkm, or 132.4% compared to the level of January-December 2024.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 388173.6 million tenge, or 120.3% compared to January-December 2024.
In January-December 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 0.6% and amounted to 1382 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 127% (1053.5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation amounted to 60.4% (317.7 tousand square meters), dormitory – 10.8 thousand square meters.
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2025 amounted to 859472.5 million tenge, or 107.5% by January-December 2024.
The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the сity amounted to 27742 units and increased by 2.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 2237513.4 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2024, real GRP increased by 8.7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 26.9%, services – 64.7%.
The consumer price index in December 2025 compared to December 2024 was 112%.
Prices for food products increased by 13.3%, non-food products – by 11.5%, paid services for the population – by 10.9%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 10.5%.
The volume of retail trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 1338637.4 million tenge, or 15.5% more than the corresponding period in 2024.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 2884077.8 million tenge, or 131.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
According to preliminary data, in January-November 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 520.5 million US dollars and decreased by 12% compared to January-November 2024, including exports – 136.8 million US dollars (by 20.6% more), imports – 383.7 million US dollars (19.8% less).
