Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of August1, 2024 amounted to 1223,6 thousand people, including 534 thousand people (43,6%) - urban, 689,6 thousand people (56,4%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-July 2024 amounted to 10044 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 10838 people).

The number of births as January-July 2024 amounted to 14363 people (4,2% less than in January-July 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 4319 people (4,1% more than in January-July 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -9012 people (in January-July 2023 – -6916 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of– -189 people (-220), in internal migration – -8823 people (-6696).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 27220 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 23195 people or 4% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 322778 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 10,6%.The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 113%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 134849 tenge, which is 10,6% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 1,7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-August 2024 amounted to 570795,1 million tenge in current prices, which is 2,4% less than in January-August 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 2,9%, in the manufacturing industry decreased by 7,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 12,7%, in water supply; sanitation; wastecollection, treatment anddisposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 6,7%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-August 2024 amounted to 204089,6 million tenge or 106,5% by January-August 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-August 2024 amounted to 29045,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 104,6% to January-August 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic 1472,4 million pkm or 118,9% by January-August 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 153239,9 million tenge or 112,5% by January-August 2023.

In January-August 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 0,6% and amounted to 392,1 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 38,4% (92,5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 7,5% (298,7 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-August 2024 amounted to 277790,9 million tenge or 101,6% by January-August 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of September 1, 2024 amounted to 15387 units and increased by 1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14994 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12151 units, including 11759 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12258 units and increased by 1,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 638675,9 million tenge at current prices. Compared to January-March 2023real GRP increased by 1,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 29,2%, services – 64,2%.

The consumer price index in August 2024 compared to December 2023 was 104,5%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 10,8%, non-food products – by 4%, food products – by 2,5%.                 The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in August 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 8,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-August 2024 amounted to 329918 million tenge or 2,9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-August 2024 amounted to 258958,3 million tenge or 97,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-July 2024 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 125,8 million US dollars and decreased by 48,1% compared to January-July 2023, including exports – 45,4 million US dollars (35,3% less), imports – 80,4 million US dollars (53,3% less).
