Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of September 1, 2025 amounted to 1217,7 thousand people, including 537,6 thousand people (44,1%) – urban, 680,1 thousand people (55,9%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-August 2025 amounted to 9606 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 11366 people).

The number of births as January-August 2025 amounted to 14542 people (10,9% less than in January-August 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 4936 people (0,5% less than in January-August 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -14268 people (in January-August 2024 – -10810 people), including in external migration – a negative balance of – -234 people (-265), in internal migration – -14034 people (-10545).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 26263 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 23643 people or 4,3% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 355167 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 10%.

The real wage index in II quarter 2025 was 100,3%.

In the I quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 148735 tenge, which is 10% higher than in I quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 102%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-September 2025 amounted to 967818 million tenge in current prices, which is 18,3% more than in January-September 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 41,7%, in the manufacturing industry increased by 13,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 10,1%, in water supply; sanitation; wastecollection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 5,4%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-September 2025 amounted to 362984,5 million tenge or 103,1% by January-September 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-September 2025 amounted to 29627,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 90,8% to January-September 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic 1441 million pkm or 87,6% by January-September 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 254871,4 million tenge or 116,5% by January-September 2024.

In January-September 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 1,7% and amounted to 522,2 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings increased by 26,1% (184,6 thousand square meters). In this case the total area of commissioned individual residential buildings decreased by 8% (333,5 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2025 amounted to 490964,2 million tenge or 139,1% by January-September 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2025 amounted to 15432 units and decreased by 0,2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 15024 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12226 units, including 11819 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12251 units and decreased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 1550553 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the previous yearreal GRP increased by 7,9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 36,7%, services – 61,3%.

The consumer price index in September 2025 compared to December 2024 was 109%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 10,9%, food products–by 9,5%, non-food products – by 7%.  

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 11,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 419494,9 million tenge or 2,6% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-September 2025 amounted to 331090,7 million tenge or 100,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-August 2025 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 246,7 million US dollars and increased by 40,3% compared to January-August 2024, including exports – 111,3 million US dollars (54% more), imports – 135,4 million US dollars (30,7% more).
