Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of December 1, 2025 amounted to 1215,9 thousand people, including 538,3 thousand people (44,3%) – urban, 677,6 thousand people (55,7%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-November 2025 amounted to 13413 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 15530 people).

The number of births as January-November 2025 amounted to 20132 people (9,7% less than in January-November 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 6719 people (0,7% less than in January-November 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -19912 people (in January-November 2024 – -15712 people), including in external migration – a negative balance of – -203 people (-320), in internal migration – -19790 people (-15392).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 26122 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 9195 people or 1,7% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 308058 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 10,2%.

The real wage index in III quarter 2025 was 99,5%.

In the III quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 161645 tenge, which is 9,5% higher than in III quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 98,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2025 amounted to 1342392,2 million tenge in current prices, which is 15,6% more than in January-December 2024.

In the mining industry production volumes increased by 32,4%, in the manufacturing industry increased by 12,8%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 6,9%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 2,5%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-December 2025 amounted to 514771 million tenge or 102,1% by January-December 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2025 amounted to 40791,7 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 92,4% to January-December 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic 1963,4 million pkm or 89,5% by January-December 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 392824,8 million tenge or 114,4% by January-December 2024.

In January-December 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 1,3% and amounted to 768,9 thousand square meters, of which the total area of commissioned individual residential buildings increased by 1,7% (486,6 thousand square meters), in multi-apartment buildings increased by 3,5% (278,3 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2025 amounted to 764508,5 million tenge or 138,8% by January-December 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 14755 units and decreased by 3,2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14342 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12393 units, including 11981 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11632 units and decreased by 4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 1550553 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the previous yearreal GRP increased by 7,9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 36,7%, services – 61,3%.

The consumer price index in December 2025 compared to December 2024 was 111,8%.

Prices for food products increased by 13,2%, paid services for the population – by 10,8%, non-food products – by 10,2%.         

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 12,9%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 604441,1 million tenge or 2,3% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2025 amounted to 459710,4 million tenge or 98,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2025 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 334,9 million US dollars and increased by 32,9% compared to January-November 2024, including exports – 143,6 million US dollars (47,6% more), imports – 191,3 million US dollars (23,6% more).
