Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 1222,5 thousand people, including 535,5 thousand people (43,8%) – urban, 687 thousand people (56,2%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-December 2024 amounted to 16900 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 18595 people).

The number of births as January-December 2024 amounted to 24366 people (5,7% less than in January-December 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 7466 people (3,2% more than in January-December 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -16980 people (in January-December 2023 – -14156 people), including in external migration – a negative balance of – -305 people (-475), in internal migration – -16675 people (-13681).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 27164 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of February 1, 2025 amounted to 19037 people or 3,3% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 313073 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 8,9%. The real wage index in IV quarter 2024 was 102,1%.

In the III quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 141853 tenge, which is 15,1% higher than in III quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 107,3%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January 2025 amounted to 95571,4 million tenge in current prices, which is 21,8% more than in January 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 39,4%, in the manufacturing industry increased by 20,1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 8,7%, in water supply; sanitation; wastecollection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 1,2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January 2025 amounted to 12151,1 million tenge or 100,9% by January 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January 2025 amounted to 3609,5 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 107,2% to January 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic 157,1 million pkm or 94,3% by January 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 6797,6 million tenge or 133,1% by January 2024.

In January 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 34,8% and amounted to 41,4 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 20,7% (18 thousand square meters), in individual residential buildings by 48% (23,4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January 2025 amounted to 36767,8 million tenge or 153,5% by January 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of February 1, 2025 amounted to 15191 units and increased by 0,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14786 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12414 units, including 12010 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12057 units and increased by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to 2226048,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to January-September 2023 real GRP increased by 3,9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 33,3%, services – 60%.

The consumer price index in January 2025 compared to December 2024 was 101,3%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,1%, paid services for the population by 0,6%, non-food products – by 0,5%,. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 0,9%.

The volume of retail trade in January 2025 amounted to 37269,3 million tenge or 1% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January 2025 amounted to 20616,7 million tenge or 100,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-December 2024 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 275,4 million US dollars and decreased by 29,2% compared to January-December 2023, including exports – 103,6 million US dollars (8,2% less), imports – 171,9 million US dollars (37,7% less).
