Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 1223,5 thousand people, including 533,2 thousand people (43,6% ) - urban, 690,3 thousand people (56,4%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-May 2024 amounted to 7135 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 7702 people).

The number of births as January-May 2024 amounted to 10234 people (3,4% less than in January-May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3099 people (7,1% more than in January-May 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -6271 people (in January-May 2023 – -3767 people), including in external migration - a negative balance of – -130 people (-15), in internal – -6141 people and (-3752).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 27156 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 25065 people or 4,4% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 282100 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 10,8%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 101,8%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 134849 tenge, which is 10,6% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 1,7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 413497,3 million tenge in current prices, which is 7,4% less than in January-June 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 2,8%, in the manufacturing industry decreased by 13,5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 4,8%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 4,9%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 92935,8 million tenge or 104% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to 21230,6 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 102,3% to January-June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic 1049,9 million pkm or 117,7% by January-June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 122925,2 million tenge or 112,3% by January-June 2023.

In January-June 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 2,3% and amounted to 311 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 19,9% (75,3 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 2,7% (234,9 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 196281,9 million tenge or 90,3% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 15295 units and increased by 0,9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14905 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12036 units, including 11646 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12190 units and increased by 1,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 638675,9 million tenge at current prices. Compared to January-March 2023 real GRP increased by 1,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 29,2%, services – 64,2%.

The consumer price index in June 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103,1%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 4,2%, food products – by 3%, non-food products – by 2,7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 7,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 236492,9 million tenge or 2,9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 179031,7 million tenge or 97,2% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-May 2024 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 75808,7 million US dollars and decreased by 49,7% compared to January-May 2023, including exports – 24123,6 million US dollars (51,2% less), imports – 51685,1 million US dollars (49% less).
