Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of Zhambyl region as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 1215 thousand people, including 587,1 thousand people (48,3%) – urban, 627,9 thousand people (51,7%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-February 2026 amounted to 2136 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 2246 people).

The number of births as January-February 2026 amounted to 3146 people (7,7% less than in January-February 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 1010 people (13,2% less than in January-February 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -2827 people (in January-February 2025 – -3198 people), including in external migration – a positive balance 56 people (-4), in internal migration – a negative balance -2883 people (-3194).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 25273 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 14442 people or 2,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 335794 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 7,3%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2025 was 96%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 172382 tenge, which is 9,1% higher than in IV quarter 2024, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 97,6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2026 amounted to 355483,4 million tenge in current prices, which is 17,6% more than in January-March 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 13,3%, in the manufacturing industry increased by 21,5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there increase by 11,1%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities has been noted increase by 16,6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-March 2026 amounted to 45582,5 million tenge or 101,9% by January-March 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-March 2026 amounted to 5712,4 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 90,7% to January-March 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic 561,1 million pkm or 125,5% by January-March 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 60664,1 million tenge or 152,7% by January-March 2025.

In January-March 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 1,7% and amounted to 150,4 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – by 8,9% (62,2 thousand square meters), in individual residential buildings decreased by 2,8% (88,2 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2026 amounted to 218116,1 million tenge or 171,6% by January-February 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 14455 units and decreased by 5,3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 14042 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 12355 units, including 11942 units – small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 11348 units and decreased by 6,2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 2632914,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to January-September 2024 real GRP increased by 6,1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 38,8%, services – 59,1%.

The consumer price index in March 2026 compared to December 2025 was 102,9%.

Prices for non-food products increased by 3,2%, paid services for the population by – 2,8%. food products by – 2,7%

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 5,8%.

The volume of retail trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 140011,1 million tenge or 2,5% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-March 2026 amounted to 88622,5 million tenge or 105,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-February 2026 mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 42 million US dollars and decreased by 20,9% compared to January-February 2025, including exports – 13,7 million US dollars (7,8% less), imports – 28,3 million US dollars (25,9% less).
