Population size and migration

The population of the region as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 726,4 thousand people, including 484,6 thousand people (66,7% ) – urban, 241,8 thousand people (33,3%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-May 2024 amounted to 151 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year, the natural increase in the population amounted to 336 people).

The number of births as January-May 2024 amounted to 3610 people (2% less in January-May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3459 people (3,3% more than in January-May 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -825 people (in January-May 2023 – -761 people), including in external migration – a negative balance of -48 people (-86), in internal – negative -777 people and (-675).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 17,4 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 11666 people, or 3,0% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 376519 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 14,6%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 104,2%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 211317 tenge, which is 11,1% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 101,0%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 1231192,5 million tenge in current prices, which is 5,1% more than in January-June 2023.

In the mining and mine workings industry, production volumes increased by 6,4%, in the manufacturing industry – by 3,7%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioned – by 18,5%. In water supply; sanitation, waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution elimination activities the decrease in production amounted to 1,6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 91 240,7 million tenge, or 102,9% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to 3301,2 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 87,4% compared to January-June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 854,6 million pkm, or 91,2% by January-June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 135877,3 million tenge, or 131,5% compared to January-June 2023.

In January-June 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4,4% and amounted to 141,6 thousand square meters. At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 12,7% (38,6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 286 506,4 million tenge, or 107,7% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of Julu1, 2024 amounted to 14 982 units and increased by 0,6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year , including 14 625 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 11 519 units, including 11 164 units- small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 12 215 units and increased by 0,3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 1086449,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-March 2023, real GRP increased by 7,5%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 50,9%, services – 42,5%.

The consumer price index in June 2024 compared to December 2023 was 104,6%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,7%, non-food products – by 4,1%, paid services for the population – by 8,1%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 11,2%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 528723,6 million tenge, or 1,9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 359153,1 million tenge, or 85,4% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-May 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 580,9 million US dollars and decreased by 32,2% compared to January-May 2023, including exports – 278 million US dollars (by 2% more), imports – 302,9 million US dollars (48,2% less).
