Population size and migration

The population of the region as of Iyne 1, 2024 amounted to 1134.9 thousand people, including 927,3 thousand people
(81,7% ) – urban, 207,6 thousand people (18,3%) – rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-May 2024 amounted to 1925 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 2359 people).

The number of births as January- May 2024 amounted to 6414 people (5.7% less than in January- May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 4489 people (1% more than in January- May 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -2341 people (in January- May 2023 – -1037 people), including in internal – -2314 people in internal migration (-1056), and – -27 people in inexternal migration (19).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 23,7 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,2% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 9646 people, or 1,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 360623 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 14,6%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 103,1%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 212647 tenge, which is 14,6% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 3,1%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 1818617,1 million tenge in current prices, which is 11,8% more than in January-June 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 11,1%, in the manufacturing industry - by 12,1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 12,9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 3,1%.

The volume of gross output of of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 88126,9 million tenge, or 100,6% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to 18683,9 million tkm (аccounting for the amount of work performed by individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 92,3% compared to January- June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 1333,7 million pkm, or 93,4% by January- June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 195202,7 million tenge, or 125,6% compared to January-June 2023.

In January-June 2024, the total area of commissioned housing increased by 14.5% and amounted to 266.3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 26.9% (230.4 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of commissioned individual residential buildings decreased by 20.1% (34.2 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 358458.7 million tenge, or 106.3% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 28929 units and increased by 0,2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 28389 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 22775 units, including 22249 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 25038 units, compared to the corresponding date of the previous year the number of registered persons remained at the same level.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 1690879,8 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, real GRP increased by 7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 47,3%, services – 46,1%.

The consumer price index in June 2024 compared to December 2023 was 104,7%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,9%, non-food products – by 4,3%, paid services for the population – by 7%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2024 compared to December 2023 increased by 4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 649151,7 million tenge, or 2,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 1149107,5 million tenge, or 27,8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-May 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1132.4 million US dollars and decreased by 6.8% compared to January- May 2023, including exports – 656.4 million US dollars (by 10.3% less), imports – 476 million US dollars(1.4% less).
