Population size and migration

The population of the city as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 1520,8 thousand people.

The natural increase in the population in January-November 2024 amounted to 21150 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 22200 people).

The number of births as January-November 2024 amounted to 26392 people (2.5% less than in January-November 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 5242 people (7.8% more than in January-November 2023).

The migration balance is positive and amounted to 69501 people (in January-November 2023 - 46970 people), including 2290 in external migration (1293 people ), in internal 67211 people (45677 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 31 211 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of November 2024 amounted to 3 874 people.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 504 212 tenge.

The real wage index in III quarter of 2024 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2023 was 100.2%.

In the ІI quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 296 337 tenge, which is 10.7% higher than in 2023, the increase rate of real cash income for the specified period is 0.2%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2024 amounted to 2538126.6 million tenge in current prices, which is 6.7% more than in January-December 2023.

In the manufacturing industry - increased by 9.8%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decreased by 22.7%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased - by 10.2%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-December 2024 amounted to 3994.5 million tenge, or 104.5% by January-December 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2024 amounted to – 43218.1 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 125.7% compared to January-December 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 18498.1 million pkm, or 115.1% by January-December 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 1129 billion tenge, or 122.3% by 2023.

In January-December 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 12.7% and amounted to 4435 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 13.1% (4369.1 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased 8.9 (61.6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2024 amounted to 1898.5 billion tenge, or 113.1% by 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 103572 units and increased by 2.6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 102694 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 79481 units, including 78606 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the town amounted to 93626 units and increased by 1.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to 9201576.5 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- September 2023, real GRP increased by 6.8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 12.6%, services – 80.7%.

The consumer price index in January-December 2024 compared to January December 2023 was 10,7%.

Prices for food products increased by 4.4%, non-food products – by 7.8%, paid services for the population – by 16.9%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January-December 2024 compared to January-December 2023 increased by 6.5%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 2965127.6 million tenge, or 10.5% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 8066930.7 million tenge, or 111.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 4878 million US dollars and increased by 1.4% increased to January-November 2023, including exports – 1064.4 million US dollars (by 31.8% less), imports – 3813.6 million US dollars (17.4% more).
