The population of the city of Astana as of September 1, 2026 was 1700385 people.

The natural population growth in January-August 2026 amounted to 13517 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 13597 people). In January-August 2026, the number of registered newborns was 0.3% higher than in January-August 2025, deaths - by 3.4% more.

The migration balance is positive and amounted to 47692 people (in January-August 2025 - 59190 people), including 730 in external migration (1037 people), in internal 46962 people (58153 people).

Labor

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 34053 people.

The unemployment rate was 4.2% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of 1 April 2026 amounted to 5534 people.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 647920 tenge.

The real wage index in II quarter of 2026 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025 was 99%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-September 2026 amounted to 3097194.4 million tenge in current prices, which is 11.6% more than in January-September, 2025.

In the manufacturing industry increased by 8.1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air increased by 54.4%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by 63.3%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural, forestry and fishery products (services) in January-September, 2026 amounted to 3106.1 million tenge, or 98.3% compared to January-September, 2025.

The volume of freight turnover in January-September 2026 amounted to 32391.5 million tkm (taking into account the estimated volume of freight turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 104.5% against January-September 2025.

The volume of passenger traffic is 13570.2 million pkm, or 99.1% against January-September 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 1182.5 billion tenge, or 111.1% compared to January-September 2025.

In January-September 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 3.4% and amounted to 3048.3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 5.4% (2983.9 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 29.2% (64.4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2026 amounted to 1879.4 billion tenge, or 105.2% by January-September 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of 1 October, 2026 amounted to 106053 units and decreased by 2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 105160 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 83538 units, including 82648 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the town amounted to 92943 units and decreased by 4.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2026 amounted to 8919589 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2025, real GRP increased by 5.6%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 18.6%, services – 71.4%.

The consumer price index in September 2026 by September 2025 was 110.2%. Prices for food products increased by 8.1%, non-food products – by 11.6%, paid services for the population – by 11.5%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2026 increased by 6.1% compared to September 2025.

The volume of retail trade in January-September 2026 amounted to 2850042.7 million tenge, which is 105% compared to January-September 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-September 2026 amounted to 5876745.1 million tenge, which is 102% compared to January-September 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-August 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 4136.2 million US dollars and increased by 26.2% to January-August 2025, including exports – 529 million US dollars (by 3.1% more), imports – 3607.2 million US dollars (30.4% more).
