Population size and migration

The population of the city of Astana as of November 1, 2025 was 1622245 people.

The natural population growth in January-October 2025 amounted to 17265 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 19258 people). In January-October 2025, the number of registered newborns was 7.5% less than in January-October 2024, deaths - by 4.1% more.

The migration balance is positive and amounted to 76277 people (in January-October 2024 - 62444 people), including 1320 in external migration (1939 people ), in internal 74957 people (60505 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the III quarter of 2025 amounted to 34071 people.

The unemployment rate was 4.3% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of November 1, 2025 amounted to 5570 people.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter, 2025 amounted to 569647 tenge.

The real wage index in III quarter, 2025 compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024 was 100.1%.

In the ІІ quarter, 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 337014 tenge, which is 12.2% higher than in 2024, the decrease rate of real cash income for the specified period is 0.9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-November, 2025 amounted to 2976713.4 million tenge in current prices, which is 6.4% more than in January-November, 2024.

In the manufacturing industry increased by 7.2%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air decreased by 0.6%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities increased by 3.4%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural, forestry and fishery products (services) in January-November, 2025 amounted to 4351.2 million tenge, or 98.7% compared to January-November, 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-November 2025 amounted to – 46189.6 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 117.6% compared to January-November 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 16634.8 million pkm, or 97.9% by January-November 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 1184.5 billion tenge, or 132.2% compared to January-November 2024.

In January-November 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 8.7% and amounted to 3967.8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 6.8% (3834 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased 25.6% (66.7 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-November 2025 amounted to 2137.4 billion tenge, or 123.6% by January-November 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of 1 December 2025 amounted to 108732 units and increased by 4.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 107800 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 81621 units, including 80693 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the town amounted to 97236 units and increased by 3.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2025 amounted to 6793574 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2024, real GRP increased by 11.1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 16.1%, services - 77%.

The consumer price index in January-November 2025 against January- November 2024 was 12.9%.

Prices for paid services for the population increased by 15.9%, food products – by 10.9%, non-food products – by 9.9%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January-November 2025 increased by 4.1% compared to January-November 2024.

The volume of retail trade in January-November 2025 amounted to 3255005.1 million tenge, or 15.5% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- November 2025 amounted to 7542199.2 million tenge, or 105.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January-October 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 4155.7 million US dollars and increased by 11.1% decreased to January- October 2024, including exports – 646.3 million US dollars (by 40.7% less), imports – 3509.4 million US dollars (2.1% less).
