Population size and migration

The population of the city as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 1464.4 thousand people.

The natural increase in the population in January-May 2024 amounted to 9527 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 10100 people).

The number of births as January-May 2024 amounted to 11918 people (2.9 % less than in January-May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 2391 people (10.1% more than in January-May 2023).

The migration balance is positive and amounted to 24771 people (in January-May 2023 - 11872 people), including 906 in external migration (448 people ), in internal 23865 people (11424 people).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 32599 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,5% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 8497 people, or 1,2% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 494011 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 14.3%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 104.6%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 276296 tenge, which is 11,3% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 1,7%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 1065680.2 million tenge in current prices, which is 13.1% more than in January-June 2023.

In the manufacturing industry - increased by 16.5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decreased by 19.2%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities decreased - by 4%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 1635.7 million tenge, or 98.9% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to – 19835.9 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 119.3% compared to January-June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 8742.3 million pkm, or 118.4% by January-June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 362.2 million tenge, or 135% compared to January- June 2023.

In January-June 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 5.2% and amounted to 1676.2 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 5.6% (1649.6 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 13.3% (26.6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 632.6 million tenge, or 113.2% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of Jule 1, 2024 amounted to 102678 units and increased by 4.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 101863 units with less than 100 employees.               The number of operating legal entities amounted to 77382 units, including 76570 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the town amounted to 93436 units and increased by 3.8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 2647542,0 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- March 2023, real GRP increased by 5,6%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 12.6%, services – 80.6%.

The consumer price index in January-June 2024 compared to January-June 2023 was 9.6%.

Prices for food products increased by 5.7%, non-food products – by 7.7%, paid services for the population – by 13.7%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January-June 2024 compared to January-June 2023 increased by 6.1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 1114841.6 milliontenge, or 7% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 2944662.5 milliontenge, or 102 % compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January- May 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1952.9 million US dollarsand decreased by 9.8% compared to January- May 2023, including exports – 618.4 million US dollars (by 17.2% less), imports – 1334.5 million US dollars (5.9% less).
