Population size and migration

The population of the region as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 844.5 thousand people, including 396.8 thousand people (47%) - urban, 447.7 thousand people (53%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- May 2024 amounted to 6041 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 6360 people).

The number of births as January- May 2024 amounted to 7924 people (2,6% less than in January- May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1883 people (5.8% more than in January- May 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - -3490 people (in January- May 2023 - -1767 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 0 (-7), in internal - negative - -3490 people and (-1760).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 17.3 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4.9% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 15858 people, or 4.5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 329917 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 12.4%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 103.9%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 137954 tenge, which is 12.1% higher than in I quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 3.6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 522069 million tenge at current prices, which is 5% more than in January-June 2023.

In the mining industry, production decreased by 3.7%, in the manufacturing industry there was an increase of- 37.5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned air an increase of 2.5%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution control activities decreased by 0.9%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 28044.5 million tenge, or 104,0% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to 16355,9 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 99.5% compared to January-June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 1117,2 million pkm, or 108.9% by January-June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 75815 million tenge, or 135.6% compared to January-June 2023.

In January- June 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 3.7% and amounted to 330.5 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – 2.1 times (17.4 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 2.0% (304.4 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 233856 million tenge, or 141.4% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 10550 units and decreased by 2.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 10192 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 8826 units, including 8468 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 7900 units and decreased by 2,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 576.2 billion tengeat current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-March 2023, real GRP increased by 6.9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 29.3%, services – 63.8%.

The consumer price index in June 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103.3%.

Prices for food products increased by 2.5%, non-food products – by 3.3%, paid services for the population – by 4.9%.                 The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased by 0.6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 217 051.6 million tenge, or 2.8% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 139 023.4 million tenge, or 104.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-May 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 90.7 million US dollars and compared to January-May 2023 including by 2.3 times, including exports 71.2 million US dollars (3.8 times more), imports 19.4 million US dollars(8.5% less).
