Population size and migration

The population of the region as of February 1, 2025 amounted to 846.2 thousand people, including 398.6 thousand people (47%) - urban, 447.6 thousand people (53%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January 2025 amounted to 917 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 1408 people).

The number of births as January 2025 amounted to 1294 people (29.3% less than in January 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 377 people (10.9% less than in January 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - -830 people (in January 2024 - -802 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 1 (1), in internal - negative - -831 (-803).

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-February 2025 amounted to 170735 million tenge at current prices, which is 1.9% less than in January-February 2024.

In the mining industry, production decreased by 6.5%, in the manufacturing industry there was an increase of 9.1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air-conditioned air decreased by 5.8%, in water supply; sanitation; waste collection, treatment and disposal, pollution control activities increased by 20.6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-February 2025 amounted to 9891.0.million tenge, or 102.7% by January-February 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-february 2025 amounted to 5 716.7 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 107.0% compared to January-february 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 408.5 million pkm, or 118.6% by January-february 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) performed in January-February 2025 amounted to 10223 million tenge, or 197.2% compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The total area of commissioned housing increased by 3.9% and amounted to 110.9 thousand square meters, apartamenters, of these in buildings - 4.1 times (25.6 thousand square meters), and in individual residential buildings and dormitories decreased by 13.3% (82.3 thousand square meters) and 46.0% (3.0 thousand square meters), respectively.

The volume of investments in fixed capital amounted to 82903 million tenge, or 103.9% by January-February 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of March 1, 2025 amounted to 11570 units and increased by 9.3% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 11205 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 10182 units, including 9817 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 8953 units and increased by 12.9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for the 9 monthsof 2024 amounted to 2101.7 billion tengeat current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of the 9 months of 2023, real GRP increased by 6.4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 40.3%, services – 52.7%.

The consumer price index in February 2025 compared to December 2024 was 102.0%.

Prices for food products increased by 2.7%, non-food products – by 1.4%, paid services for the population – by 1.8%. 

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in February 2025 compared to December 2024 increased by 1.4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-february 2025 amounted to 69169.6 million tenge, or 1.5% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-february 2025 amounted to 41022.5 million tenge, or 103.6% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in January 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 8.7 million US dollars and compared to January 2024 decreased by 9.3% , including exports 6 million US dollars (19.1 more), imports of 2.7 million US dollars (40.7% less).
