The population in the city of Almaty as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 2379,8 thousand people.
The natural increase in the population in January-July 2026 amounted to 10286 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year –11621 people).
The number of births as January-July 2026 amounted to 17326 people (7,8% less than in January-July 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 7040 people (1,8% less than in January-July 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 21404 people (in January-July 2025 – 21809 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 1506 people (1609), in internal – positive – 19898 people (20200).
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 53,5 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of September 1, 2026 amounted to 39605 people, or 3,3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 610371 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 10,2%.
The real wage index in II quarter 2026 was 100,8%.
The volume of industrial production in January-August 2026 amounted to 1747329,3 million tenge in current prices, which is 20,9% more than in January-August 2025.
The volume of in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 24,7% and in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 5%, while in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air decreased by 0,3%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-August 2026 amounted to 3757,5 million tenge, or 113,1% by January-August 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-August 2026 amounted to 41798,7 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 99,4% compared to January-August 2025.
The volume of passenger turnover in January-August 2026 amounted to 19563,8 million p-km, or 122,6% by January-August 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 669157,4 million tenge, or 116,7% compared to January-August 2025.
In January-August 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4,6% and amounted to 1832,3 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 5% (1601,9 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 6,4% (212,9 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- August 2026 amounted to 1483145,1 million tenge, or 103,8% byJanuary- August 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of September 1, 2026 amounted to 167313 units and increased by 7.1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 165589 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 124858 units, including 123207 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the city amounted to 157986 units and increased by 7,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2026 amounted to 7542659,2 million tenge at current prices ( the share of the Republic of Kazakhstan 22,1%). Compared to the corresponding period in 2025, real GRP increased by 4,6%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 8,3%, services – 81,2%.
The consumer price index in August 2026 compared to December 2025 was 106,1%.
Prices for food products increased by 4,6%, non-food products – by 6,1%, paid services for the population – by 7,4%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in August 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 3,2%.
The volume of retail trade in January-August 2026 amounted 5505861,6 million tenge, or 4,8% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-August 2026 amounted to 12374660,7 million tenge, or 110,8% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-July 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 4799,8 million US dollars and increased by 0,2% compared to January-July 2025, including imports – 3471 million US dollars (increased by 2,9%), exports – 1328,8 million US dollars (decreased by 6,2%).
