The population in the city of Almaty as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 2362,5 thousand people.
The natural increase in the population in January-April 2026 amounted to 5955 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 6194 people).
The number of births as January-April 2026 amounted to 9724 people (4,9% more less than in January-April 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 3769 people (6,5% less than in January-April 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 8405 people (in January-April 2025 – 11822 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 1471 people (964), in internal – positive – 6934 people (10858).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 53,3 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of June 1, 2026 amounted to 33438 people, or 2,7% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 574162 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10,7%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99,5%.
In the ІV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population, according to the estimate, amounted to 410418 tenge, which is 7,6% higher than in ІV quarter 2024, the decline rate of real cash income for the specified period is - 3,4%.
The volume of industrial production in January-May 2026 amounted to 1123859,6 million tenge in current prices, which is 25,4% more than in January-May 2025.
The volume of in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 30% and in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 10,7%, while in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air decreased by 0,8%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-May 2026 amounted to 1710,5 million tenge, or 118,3% by January-May 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-May 2026 amounted to 25641,1 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 97,6% compared to January-May 2025.
The volume of passenger turnover in January-May 2026 amounted to 10999,3 million p-km, or 122,2% by January-May 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 271027,7 million tenge, or 127,2% compared to January-May 2025.
In January-May 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 3,5% and amounted to 1179,1 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 5,4% (1059,5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 10,6% (119,7 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-May 2026 amounted to 768826,8 million tenge, or 101,6% by January-May 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of June 1, 2026 amounted to 162554 units and increased by 5,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 160814 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 119895 units, including 118229 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the city amounted to 153283 units and increased by 6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2025 amounted to 37279951,5 million tenge at current prices (the share of the Republic of Kazakhstan 23,4%). Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, real GRP increased by 6,9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 6,9%, services – 85,8%.
The consumer price index in May 2026 compared to December 2025 was 104,4%.
Prices for food products increased by 4,2%, non-food products – by 3,5%, paid services for the population – by 5,1%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in May 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2,5%.
The volume of retail trade in January-May 2026 amounted 2838002,6 million tenge, or 3,2% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-May 2026 amounted to 7013541,5 million tenge, or 106,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-April 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 2715 million US dollars and increased by 2,3% compared to January-April 2025, including imports – 1976,6 million US dollars (increased by 5,2%), exports – 738,4 million US dollars (decreased by 4,6%).
