The population in the city of Almaty as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 2359 thousand people.
The natural increase in the population in January-March 2026 amounted to 4402 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 4415 people).
The number of births as January-March 2026 amounted to 7209 people (2,5% more less than in January-March 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 2807 people (5,7% less than in January-March 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 6547 people (in January-March 2025 – 9295 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 1299 people (570), in internal – positive – 5248 people (8725).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 53,3 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,4% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 32589 people, or 2,8% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 574162 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10,7%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99,5%.
In the ІV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population, according to the estimate, amounted to 410418 tenge, which is 7,6% higher than in ІV quarter 2024, the decline rate of real cash income for the specified period is - 3,4%.
The volume of industrial production in January-April 2026 amounted to 931327,5 million tenge in current prices, which is 27,8% more than in January-April 2025.
In the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 32,1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air - by 2,8%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 13,4%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2026 amounted to 1494 million tenge, or 122,8% by January-April 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2026 amounted to 20167,9 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 96,6%compared to January-April 2025.
The volume of passenger turnover in January-April 2026 amounted to 8608,9 million p-km, or 121,9% by January-April 2025.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 181646,2 million tenge, or 117% compared to January- April 2025.
In January-April 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 6,8% and amounted to 977,8 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 9,8% (887,9 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 16,3% (90 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2026 amounted to 588602,1 million tenge, or 103,1% by January- April 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 161362 units and increased by 5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 159621 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 120153 units, including 118486 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the city amounted to 152086 units and increased by 5.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2025 amounted to 37279951,5 million tenge at current prices (the share of the Republic of Kazakhstan 23,4%). Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, real GRP increased by 6.9%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 6,9%, services – 85,8%.
The consumer price index in april 2026 compared to December 2025 was 103,5%.
Prices for food products increased by 3,9%, non-food products – by 3%, paid services for the population – by 3,5%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 1,6%.
The volume of retail trade in January-April 2026 amounted to 2228429,2 million tenge, or 3% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2026 amounted to 5529902,2 million tenge, or 106,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-March 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 1963,7 million US dollars and increased by 4,4% compared to January-March 2025, including imports – 1431,4 million US dollars (increased by 6,8%), exports – 532,3 million US dollars (decreased by 1,7% ).
