The natural increase in the population in January 2026 amounted to 1568 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 1333 people).

The number of births as January 2026 amounted to 2470 people (3,2% more than in January 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 902 people (15% less than in January 2025).

The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 1753 people (in January 2025 – 3825 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of – 544 people (33), in internal – positive – 1209 people (3792).

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 53,5 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,5% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 30199 people, or 2,6% of the labor force.

The volume of industrial production in January-February 2026 amounted to 458378 million tenge in current prices, which is 29,8% more than in January-February 2025.

In the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 34,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air - by 3,5%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 16,3%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-February 2026 amounted to 759,9 million tenge, or 100,1% by January-February 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-February 2026 amounted to 9345,6 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 93,1% compared to January-February 2025.

The volume of passenger turnover in January-February 2026 amounted to 4035 million p-km, or 115,5% by January-February 2025.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 41006,2 million tenge, or 110,2% compared to January-February 2025.

In January-February 2026, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 5,7% and amounted to 427,1 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 4,4% (384,1 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 15,8% (43,1 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-February 2026 amounted to 253011,9 million tenge, or 106,1% by January-February 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 159151 units and increased by 4,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 157394 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 118451 units, including 116773 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the city amounted to 149586 units and increased by 4,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted to 20429769,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, real GRP increased by 6.7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 6,5%, services – 83,6%.

The consumer price index in February 2026 compared to December 2025 was 101,9%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,2%, non-food products – by 1,6%, paid services for the population – by 1,7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in February 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 986048,5 million tenge, or 2,4% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-February 2026 amounted to 2489663,3 million tenge, or 104,7% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 599,2 million US dollars and decreased by 0,8% compared to January 2025, including exports – 181,6 million US dollars (decreased by 1,6%), imports – 417,6 million US dollars (decreased by 0,5%).
