Population size and migration

The population of the Mangystau region as of March 1, 2025 amounted to 807,5 thousand people, including 372,8 thousand people (46,2%) - urban, 434,7 thousand people (53,8%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-February 2025 amounted to 2284 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 2763 people).

The number of births as January-February 2025 amounted to 2814 people (17,8% less than in January-February 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 530 people (19,5% less than in January-February 2024).

The balance of migration is positive and amounted to - 99 people (in January-February 2024 - 234 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of - 397 people (601), in the internal - negative balance - -298 people (-367).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 17,9 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,9% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of April 1, 2025 amounted to 20371 people, or 5,6% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 607867 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 8,6%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2024 was 99,3%.

In the IV quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 264644 tenge, which is 6,4% lower than in III quarter 2023, the rate of decline in real cash income for the specified period is 14,4%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2025 amounted to 779777 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,4% little than in January-March 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 0,5%, in the manufacturing industry it decreased - by 0,5%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decline decreased by 11,5%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - increased by 1,1%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-March 2025 amounted to 6305,3 million tenge, or 103,8% by January-March 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-March 2025 amounted to 8797,9 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 126,5% compared to January-March 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic - 1639,4 million pkm, or 157% by January-March 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 52851 million tenge, or 239,4% compared to January-March 2024.

In January-March 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increaseby 21,8% and amounted to 112 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 105,9% (67 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 37,6% (37 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2025 amounted to 193982 million tenge, or 110,3% by January-March 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2025 amounted to 18050 units and increased by 7,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 17668 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 14934 units, including 14552 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 15830 units and decreased by 8,4% compared to the corresponding date of the including year.

Economics

The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to at current prices 3654775,7 million tenge Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, real GRP increased by 3,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 55,7%, services 36,7%.

The consumer price index in March 2025 compared to December 2024 was 103%.

Prices for food products increased by 3,4%, non-food products - by 2,9%, paid services for the population - by 2,2%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2025 compared to December 2024 decreased by 5,6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-March 2025 amounted to 83550,5 million tenge, or 5% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-March 2025 amounted to 105109,6 million tenge, or 5,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in February 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 30,5 million US dollars and increased by 39,3% compared to February 2024, including exports - 16,7 million US dollars (56,5% less), imports – 28,8 million US dollars (30,8% more).
