Population size and migration

The population of the Mangystau region as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 803,6 thousand people, including 369,7 thousand people (46%) - urban, 433,8 thousand people (54%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-November 2024 amounted to 14667 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 16223 people).

The number of births as January-November 2024 amounted to 17897 people (6,4% less than in January-November 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 3230 people (11,5% more than in January-November 2023).

The balance of migration was positive and amounted to - 2123 people (in January-November 2023 - 2200 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of - 3233 people (3241), in internal - negative - -1110 people (-1041).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IІІ quarter of 2024 amounted to 18,3 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 12694 people, or 3,5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 570233 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2023 amounted to 9,8%.

The real wage index in III quarter 2024 was 99,7%.

In the III quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 243627 tenge, which is 12,4% higher than in III quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 2,1%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2024 amounted to 3035657 million tenge in current prices, which is 3,3% more than in January-December 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 2,7%, in the manufacturing industry - by 12,8%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decline by 0,9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - increased by 12,8%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-December 2024 amounted to 40380 million tenge, or 101,9% by January-December 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2024 amounted to 29000,8 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 101,5% compared to January-December 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic - 6556,3 million pkm, or 173,2% by January-December 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 390941 million tenge, or 111,6% compared to January-December 2023.

In January-December 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4,4% and amounted to 832 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 13,3% (567 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 10,5% (265 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December 2024 amounted to 1079539 million tenge, or 95,6% by January-December 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of January 1, 2025 amounted to 17553 units and increased by 4,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 17171 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 14484 units, including 14102 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 15346 units and decreased by 5% compared to the corresponding date of the including year.

Economics

The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted to at current prices 3654775,7 million tenge Compared to the corresponding period of 2023, real GRP increased by 3,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 55,7%, services 36,7%.

The consumer price index in December 2024 compared to December 2023 was 109,2%.

Prices for food products increased by 6,1%, non-food products - by 12,4%, paid services for the population - by 10,6%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased by 1,1%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 504104,1 million tenge, or 11,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 592257,1 million tenge, or 103,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 196,5 million US dollars and decreased by 15,3% compared to January-November 2023, including exports - 19,4 million US dollars (by 65,5% less), imports - 177 million US dollars (0,8% more).
