Population size and migration

The population of the region as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 794,5 thousand people, including 363 thousand people (45,7%) - urban, 431,5 thousand people (54,3%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-May 2024 amounted to 6761 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 7041 people).

The number of births as January-May 2024 amounted to 8284 people (0,6% less than in January-May 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1523 people (17,5% more than in January-May 2023).

The balance of migration was positive and amounted to - 899 people (in January-May 2023 - 1658 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of - 1415 people (2019), in internal - negative - -516 people and (-361).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 18,3 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 5% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 17159 people, or 4,8% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 571403 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 12,1%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 101,7%.

In the I quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 235295 tenge, which is 13,6% higher than in I quarter 2023, the index of real cash income for the specified period is 103,1%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-June 2024 amounted to 1417707 million tenge in current prices, which is 2.5% more than in January-June 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 2,2%, in the manufacturing industry - by 11.6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was decline by 3,6%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - increased by 3.5%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-June 2024 amounted to 13561 million tenge, or 97.5% by January-June 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-June 2024 amounted to 13938.8 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 98.8% compared to January-June 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic-2578.5 million pkm, or 144% by January-June 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 111092 million tenge, or 121,2% compared to January-June 2023.

In January-June 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 29.7% and amounted to 251 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 42% (132 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 8.1% (119 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-June 2024 amounted to 384 288 million tenge, or 87.2% by January-June 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 16881 units and prevaricated by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 16508 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 13715 units, including 13342 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 14721 units and prevaricated by 0,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to at current prices 853411,5 million tenge Compared to the corresponding period of January-March 2023, real GRP increased by 3,5%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 41,1%, services 50,8%.         

The consumer price index in June 2024 compared to December 2023 was 105,2%.

Prices for food products increased by 3.6%, non-food products - by 6,6%, paid services for the population - by 6,1%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2024 compared to December 2023 decline by 6,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 173233,7 million tenge, or 5,5% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 214557,8 million tenge, or 100,8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-May 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 68,6 million US dollars and decreased by 37,5% compared to January-May 2023, including exports - 7,1 million US dollars (by 64,7% less), imports - 61,5 million US dollars (31,5% less).
