The population of Almaty region as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 1606,4 thousand people, including 310,6 thousand people (19,3%)-urban, 1295,8 thousand people (80,7%)-rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January-March 2026 amounted to 4029 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year–4426 people).
The number of births as January-March 2026 amounted to 6244 people (5,3% less than in January-March 2025) the number of deaths amounted to 2215 people (2,1% more than in January-March 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 5804 people (in January-March 2025–4207 people), in cluding in external migration–a positive balance of 963 people (in January-March 2025-1614 people), ininternal migration–positive 4841people and (in January-March 2025-2593 people).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 36,3 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of April, 2026 amounted to 27460 people, or 3,5% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 376012 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10.9%. The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99,0%.
The volume of industrial production in January-April 2026 amounted to 895794 million tenge in current prices, which is 17,8% more than in January-April 2025.
In the miningindustry, production volumes increased by 43,5%, and in the manufacturing industryproduction volumesincreased by 19,7%, at the same time, supplyof electricity, gas, steamhot waterand air conditioningincreased by 5,2 %, and water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal activitiesincreased by 10,7%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry, hunting and fisheries in January-April 2026 amounted to 159771,5 million tenge, or 101,2% by January- April 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2026 amounted to 3556,1 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 89,4% compared to January- April 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic–917,2 million pkm. оr 117,2% by January-April 2025.
In January-April 2026 the volume of construction works (services) amounted 76236,1 million tenge, which is 6,4% more than in January-April 2025.
In January-April 2026 the total area of housing increased by 4,2% compared to January-April 2025 and amounted to 400,7 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings it decreased by a factor 0,1% (153,1 thousand square metersе.). The total area of individual residential buildings increased by 6,6% (246,4 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2026 amounted to 266182 million tenge, or 24,3% by January-April 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 22456 units and increased by 4,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 21957 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 18301 units, including 17804 units-small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 19292 units and increased by 5,8% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2025 amounted to 6678262,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2024, real GRP increased by 5,4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 38,2%, services–51,8%.
The consumer price index in April 2026 сompared to December 2025 was 103,7%.
Prices for food products increased by 3,4%, non-food products–by 3,2%, paid services for the population–by 4,7%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 1,9%.
The volume of retail trade in January-April 2026 amounted to 259143,7 million tenge, or 113,2% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2026 amounted to 430610,3 million tenge, or 125,6% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-March 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 300,8 million US dollars and increased by 3,7% compared to January-March 2025, including exports 126,6 million US dollars (a increase of 4,8%), imports 174,2 million US dollars (an increase of 3%).
