The population of Almaty region as of July 1, 2026 amounted to 1612,4 thousand people, including 311,9 thousand people (19,3%) – urban, 1300,5 thousand people (80,7%) – rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January–June 2026 amounted to 8279 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 9297 people).
The number of births as January–June 2026 amounted to 12964 people (6,4% less than in January–June 2025) the number of deaths amounted to 4685 people (2,8% more than in January–June 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 7582 people (in January–June 2025 – 8668 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of 1270 people (in January–June 2025 – 3168 people), in internal migration – positive 6312 people and in January–June 2025 – 5500 people).
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 36,2 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,5% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of July 2026 amounted to 28473 people, or 3,6% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 376012 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10,9%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99%.
The volume of industrial production in January–July 2026 amounted to 1657763,4 million tenge in current prices, which is 16,2% more than in January–July 2025.
In the mining industry production volumes increased by 15,7% and in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 17,2%, at the same time, supply of electricity, gas, steamhot waterand air conditioning increased by 14,8% and water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal activities increased by 5,3%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry, hunting and fisheries in January–July 2026 amounted to 343833,9 million tenge, or 103,4% by January–July 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January–July 2026 amounted to 5271,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 96,4% compared to January–July 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 1553,9 million pkm. оr 116,2% by January–July 2025.
In January–July 2026 the volume of construction works (services) amounted 212225,4 million tenge, which is 12,3% more than in January–July 2025.
In January–July 2026 the total area of housing increased by 20,9% compared to January–July 2025 and amounted to 909,8 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings it increased by a factor 59,4% (391,2 thousand square metersе). The total area of individual residential buildings increased by 2% (517,3 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January–July 2026 amounted to 664852 million tenge, or 16,4% by January–July 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of August 1, 2026 amounted to 22734 units and increased by 4,5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 22229 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 18515 units, including 18013 units small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 19554 units and increased by 5,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January–March 2026 amounted to 1619026,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January–March 2025, real GRP increased by 6,8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 41,9%, services 47%.
The consumer price index in July 2026 сompared to December 2025 was 106,4%.
Prices for food products increased by 4%, non-food products by 6,4%, paid services for the population by 10,9%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in July 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2,8%.
The volume of retail trade in January–July 2026 amounted to 518612,6 million tenge, or 112% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January–July2026 amounted to 847507,7 million tenge, or 121,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January–June 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 656,4 million US dollars and increased by 2,3% compared to January–June 2025, including exports 289,5 million US dollars (an increase of 10,3%), imports 366,9 million US dollars (an decrease of 3,2%).
