Population size and migration

The population of the region as of March 1, 2024 amounted to 1535.4 thousand people, including 248.0 thousand people (16.2%) - urban, 1287.4 thousand people (83.8%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-February 2024 amounted to 4019 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 3723 people). In January-February 2024, newborns were registered by 6.4% more than in January-February 2023, deaths – by 2.8%.

The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 374 people (in January-February 2023 - 475 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of 480 people (512), in internal - negative -106 people (-37).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the of 2023 amounted to 34.8 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4.7% of the labour force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 21714 people, or 2.9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the IV quarter of 2023 amounted to 319473 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2022 amounted to 17.7%. The real wage index in IV quarter 2023 was 108.4%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 136253 tenge, which is 14.4% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 5.3%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2024 amounted to 410175.9 million tenge in current prices, which is 0.8% more than in January-February 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 65.3%, in the manufacturing industry – they decreased by 1.3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was an increase of 36.0%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 25.6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-March 2024 amounted to 115719.0 million tenge, or 105.5% by January-March 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-March 2024 amounted to 5302.1 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 98% compared to January- March 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 254 million pkm, or 127% by January- March 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 30238.9 million tenge, or 32.5% more compared to January- March 2023.

In January-March 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 3.6% and amounted to 249942 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings increased - by 12.7% (106578 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 2.5% (143201 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2024 amounted to 119209.2 million tenge, or 21.8% more compared to January-March 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 20045 units and increased by 100.4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 19566 units with less than 17075 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 1 units, including 16597 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 16947 units and increased by 106.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2023 amounted to 3093209,70 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-September 2022, real GRP increased by 3,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 49%, and services –51%.

The consumer price index in January - March 2024 compared to January - March 2023 was 107,4%. Prices for food products increased by 6,1%, non-food products – by 8,1%, paid services for the population – by 9,1%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January- March 2024 compared to January- March 2023 increased by 6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-March 2024 amounted to 132259.0 million, or 1,3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- March 2024 amounted to 197681.3 million, or 114.1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January- February 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 124.2 million US dollars and decreased by 13.6% compared to January- February 2023, including exports – 47.4 million US dollars (by 6.6% more), imports – 76.9 million US dollars(22.6% less).
