The population of Almaty region as of April 1, 2025 amounted to 1568,8 thousand people, including 304,1 thousand people (19,4%) - urban, 1264,7 thousand people (80,6%) - rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January-March 2025 amounted to 4426 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 5811 people).
The number of births as January-March 2025 amounted to 6596 people (18,7% less than in January-March 2024) the number of deaths amounted to 2170 people (5,7% less than in January-March 2024).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 4207 people (in January-March 2024 – 896 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of 1614 people (in January-March 2024 - 728 people), in internal – positive 2593 people and (in January-March 2024 - 168 people).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 35,7 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of April, 2025 amounted to 26271 people, or 3,5% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 339185 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 9.6%. The real wage index in I quarter 2025 was 102,1%.
In the IV quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 156522 tenge, which is 14,3% higher than in IV quarter 2023, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 7,5%.
The volume of industrial production in January-April 2025 amounted to 717209,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 11,3% more than in January- April 2024.
In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 60,4%, in the manufacturing industry by 11,6%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning by 1,4% and decrease was recorded in water supply, waste collection, treatment and waste disposal, pollution remediation activities by 7,2%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry, hunting and fisheries in January-April 2025 amounted to 127593.0 million tenge, or 103.0% by January- April 2024.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2025 amounted to 7855.0 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 112,2% compared to January- April 2024.
The volume of passenger traffic –782,9 million pkm. or 222% by January- April 2024.
The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 67611,0 million tenge, which is 36,5 % more than in January-April 2024.
In January- April 2025, the total area of housing increased by 19,6 % and amounted to 384,5 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings increased - by 39,0% (153,2 thousand square metersе.)The total area of individual residential buildings increased by 9,5 % (231,2 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January - April 2025 amounted to 202162 million tenge, or 23.6% by January - April 2024.
The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2025 amounted to 21428 units and increased by 6,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 20951 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 17956 units, including 17481 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 18232 units and increased by 6,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2024 amounted to 5914783.3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2023, real GRP increased by 9,6 %. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 38,1%, services – 52 %.
The consumer price index in January-April 2025 сompared to January-April 2024 was 107,6%.
Prices for food products increased by 7,1%, non-food products – by 6,1%, paid services for the population – by 11,7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in January-April 2025 compared to January-April 2024 increased by 8,5%.
The volume of retail trade in January-April 2025 amounted to 208697,2 million tenge, or 108,3% more than the corresponding period in 2024.
The volume of wholesale trade in January- April 2025 amounted to 306947,7 million tenge, or 117,9% compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
According to preliminary data, in January-March 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 269,8 million US dollars and increased by 25,8% compared to January- March 2024, including exports – 107,1 million US dollars (by 39,8% more), imports – 162,7 million US dollars (18% more).
