The population of Almaty region as of September 1, 2026 amounted to 1615,6 thousand people, including 313,1 thousand people (19,4%) – urban, 1302,5 thousand people (80,6%) – rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January-August 2026 amounted to 10907 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 12707 people).
The number of births as January-August 2026 amounted to 17359 people (8,3% less than in January-August 2025) the number of deaths amounted to 6452 people (3,8% more than in January-August 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 8192 people (in January-August 2025 – 10647 people), including in external migration a positive balance of 1294 people (in January-August 2025 – 4176 people), in internal migration – positive 6898 people and in January-August 2025 – 6471 people.
The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 36,2 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,5% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of September, 2026 amounted to 29425 people, or 3,7% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2026 amounted to 401457 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2025 amounted to 3,1%.
The real wage index in II quarter 2026 was 93%.
In the II quarter of 2026 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 197279 tenge, which is 12,3% higher than in I quarter 2025, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period 1,3%.
The volume of industrial production in January-September 2026 amounted to 2206782,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 13,6% more than in January-September 2025.
In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 14,4% and in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 14,3%, supply of electricity, gas, steamhot water and air conditioning increased by 11,9%, water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal activities increased by 26,5%.
The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry, hunting and fisheries in January-September 2026 amounted to 630545,4 million tenge, or 103,5% by January-September 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-September 2026 amounted to 6529,9 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 98,3% compared to January-September 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 2045,7 million pkm оr 117% by January-September 2025.
In January-September 2026 the volume of construction works (services) amounted 364891,1million tenge, which is 11% more than in January-September 2025.
In January-September 2026 the total area of housing increased by 16% compared to January- September 2025 and amounted to 1045,6 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings it increased by a factor 55,6% (430,6 thousand square metersе). The total area of individual residential buildings decreased by 1,8% (613,8 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-September 2026 amounted to 901623 million tenge, or 11,8% by January-September 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of October 1, 2026 amounted to 22928 units and increased by 4,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 22422 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 18439 units, including 17937 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 19747 units and increased by 4,9% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-June 2026, amounted to 3276555,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-June 2025, real GRP increased by 9,7%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 40,3%, services 47,2%.
The consumer price index in September 2026 сompared to December 2025 was 108,1%.
Prices for food products increased by 4,2%, non-food products by 8,1%, paid services for the population by 15,4%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in September 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 4%.
The volume of retail trade in January-September 2026 amounted to 710956,8 million tenge, or 113,2% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-September2026 amounted to 1172348,3 million tenge, or 125,4% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-August 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 906,7 million US dollars and increased by 2,6% compared to January-August 2025, including exports 412,8 million US dollars (an increase of 15%), imports 493,9 million US dollars (an decrease of 5,8%).
