The population of Almaty region as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 1609,8 thousand people, including 311,3 thousand people (19,3%) – urban, 1298,5 thousand people (80,7%) – rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January-April 2026 amounted to 5444 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 6126 people).
The number of births as January-April 2026 amounted to 8479 people (6,7% less than in January-April 2025) the number of deaths amounted to 3035 people (2,5% more than in January-April 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 7808 people (in January-April 2025 – 6794 people), including in external migration – a positive balance of 1195 people (in January-April 2025 – 2591 people), in internal migration – positive 6613 people (in January-April 2025 – 4203 people).
The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 36,3 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of May, 2026 amounted to 26666 people, or 3,3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 376012 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 10,9%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99%.
The volume of industrial production in January-May 2026 amounted to 1136758 million tenge in current prices, which is 14% more than in January-May 2025.
In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 31,4%, and in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 15,1%, at the same time, supply of electricity, gas, steamhot waterand air conditioning increased by 11,8 %, and water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal activities increased by 6,9%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural, forestry and fishery products (services) in January-Мay 2026 amounted to 200310,0 million tenge, or 101,5% by January-May 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January-May 2026 amounted to 4138,2 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 90% compared to January-May 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic – 1135,1 million pkm оr 115,4% by January-May 2025.
In January-May 2026 the volume of construction works (services) amounted 105347,2 million tenge, which is 6,6% more than in January-May 2025.
In January-May 2026 the total area of housing increased by 5,1% compared to January-May 2025 and amounted to 486,4 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings it increased by a factor 11,1% (170,3 thousand square metersе).
The total area of individual residential buildings increased by 1,7% (314,9 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-May 2026 amounted to 344936,3 million tenge, or 22,9% by January-May 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of June 1, 2026 amounted to 22542 units and increased by 4,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 22041 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 18395 units, including 17897 units-small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 19373 units and increased by 5,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2025 amounted to 6678262,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-December 2024, real GRP increased by 5,4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 38,2%, services – 51,8%.
The consumer price index in Мay 2026 сompared to December 2025 was 104,2%.
Prices for food and non-food products increased by – 3,8%, paid services for the population – by 5,5%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in Мay 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by 2,3%.
The volume of retail trade in January-May 2026 amounted to 339527,2 million tenge, or 113% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January-May 2026 amounted to 539915,8 million tenge, or 123,2% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January-April 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 417,9 million US dollars and increased by 3% compared to January-April 2025, including exports 180,1 million US dollars (an increase of 5,9%), imports 237,8 million US dollars (an increase of 0,8%).
