The population of Almaty region as of June 1, 2026, amounted to 1611,6 thousand people, including 311,4 thousand people (19,3%)–urban, 1300,2 thousand people (80,7%)–rural residents.
The natural increase in the population in January–May 2026 amounted to 6712 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year–7673 people).
The number of births as January–May 2026 amounted to 10546 people (7,7% less than in January–May 2025) the number of deaths amounted to 3834 people (2,2% more than in January–May 2025).
The balance of migration is positive and amounted to 8344 people (in January–May 2025–7860 people), in cluding in external migration–a positive balance of 1241 people (in January–May 2025–2871 people), ininternal migration–positive 7103 people and (in January–May 2025–4989 people).
The number of unemployed as of July 1, 2026, amounted to 26,7 thousand people.
The unemployment rate was 4,6% of the labor force.
The number of persons registered with employment agencies as by the end of May, 2026, amounted to 26,7 thousand people, or 3,3% of the labor force.
The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2026, amounted to 376012 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025, amounted to 10,9%.
The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 99%.
The volume of industrial production in January–June 2026 amounted to 1420315 million tenge in current prices, which is 17,9% more than in January–June 2025.
In the miningindustry, production volumes increased by 23,4%, and in the manufacturing industry production volumes increased by 19,1%, at the same time, supply of electricity, gas, steamhot waterand air conditioning increased by 13 %, and water supply, waste collection, processing and disposal activities increased by 5,7%.
The volume of gross output of agricultural, forestry and fishery products (services) in January–June 2026 amounted to 269190,0 million tenge, or 102,8% by January–June 2025.
The volume of cargo turnover in January–June 2026 amounted to 4684 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation) or 96% compared to January–June 2025.
The volume of passenger traffic–1343,3 million pkm оr 115,8% by January–June 2025.
In January–June 2026 the volume of construction works (services) amounted 172545 million tenge, which is 10,1% more than in January–June 2025.
In January–June 2026 the total area of housing increased by 35,6% compared to January–June 2025 and amounted to 843,1 thousand square meters, of which in apartment buildings it increased by a factor 91,1% (377,6 thousand square metersе). The total area of individual residential buildings increased by 9,4% (464,3 thousand square meters).
The volume of investments in fixed capital in January–June 2026 amounted to 532101 million tenge, or 18,5% by January–June 2025.
The number of registered legal entities as of July 1, 2026, amounted to 22595 units and increased by 4.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 22094 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 18441 units, including 17943 units small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 19421 units and increased by 5,4% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.
The volume of gross regional product for January–March 2026, amounted to 1619026,6 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January–March 2025, real GRP increased by 6,8%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 41,9%, services 47%.
The consumer price index in June 2026 сompared to December 2025 was 105,4%.
Prices for food products increased by–3,8%, non-food products by–5,1%, paid services for the population by–8,7%.
The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in June 2026 compared to December 2025 increased by–2,9%.
The volume of retail trade in January–June 2026 amounted to 425628,7 million tenge, or 111,2% more than the corresponding period in 2025.
The volume of wholesale trade in January–June 2026 amounted to 674016,8 million tenge, or 120,3% compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
According to preliminary data, in January–May 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 533,5 million US dollars and increased by 1,1% compared to January–May 2025, including exports 230,5 million US dollars (a increase of 6,2%), imports 303 million US dollars (an decrease of 2,5%).
