Population size and migration

The population of the region as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 221.3 thousand people, including 175.6 thousand people (79.3%) - urban, 45.7 thousand people (20.7%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-November  2024 amounted to 2095 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 2420 people).

The number of births as January-November  2024 amounted to 3819  people (7 % less than in January- November 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1724 people (2.1% more than in January- November 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -2362  people (in January- November  2023 – -2140 people), including in external migration  – -10 people (- 138), in internal  – -2352 people (-2002).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IІI quarter of 2024 amounted to 4088  people.

The unemployment rate was 4.1% of the labor force. 

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of December 1, 2024 amounted to 1531 people, or 1.5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 515 543  tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of  2023 amounted to 9.4%. 

The real wage index in III quarter 2024 was 102.7%.

In the IIІ quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 284 793 tenge, which is 6.1% higher than in IІI quarter 2023, rate of decline real cash income for the specified period is 9.6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-December 2024 amounted to 1 223 389.3 million tenge in current prices, which is 8.4% more than in January-December  2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 7.8%, in the manufacturing industry - by 8.9 %, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 9.7%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 11.5%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products ( services) in January-December  2024 amounted to 71 052.2 million tenge,  or 98.2% by January-December 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-December 2024 amounted to 14 020.4 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 89.9% compared to January- December 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 1 058.6 million pkm, or 139.3% by January- December 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 144 383.7  million tenge, or 128.1% compared to January-December 2023.

In January-December 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 30.6% and amounted to 108 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-December  2024 amounted to 226 571.6 million tenge, or 96.5% by January-December 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as January 1, 2025 amounted to 2910 units and decrease 2% the corresponding  period  last  year, including 2817 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2591 units, including 2499 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 1959 units and decreased by 2.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted  1 361 367.8  million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-September 2023, real GRP increased by 10.5%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 70.7%, services – 22.6%.

The consumer price index in December 2024 compared to December 2023 was 107.7%.

Prices for food  products  increased by 4.4%, non-food  products – by 8.8%,    paid services for   the population – by 11.7%.          The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in December 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased 2.3%.

The volume of retail trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 113 488.9 million tenge, or 1.9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-December 2024 amounted to 132 619.8 million tenge, or 2.4% amounted to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-November 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 52.6 million US dollars and decreased to 35.6% compared to January- November 2023, including exports – 14.9 million US dollars (by 54.7% less), imports –37.7 million US dollars (22.8% less).
