Population size and migration

The population of the region as of March 1, 2026 amounted to 218.6 thou sand people, including 173.8 thousand people (79.5%) - urban, 44.8 thousand people (20.5%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-February 2026 amounted to 230 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 230 people).

The number of births as January-February 2026 amounted to 484 people (13.9% less than in January-February 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 254 people (23.5% less than in January-February 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -683 people (in January-February 2025 – -634 people), including in external migration – 4 people (-3), in internal – -687people (-631).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the IV quarter of 2025 amounted to 4021 people.

The unemployment rate was 4.1% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 2442 people, or 2.5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the ІV quarter of 2025 amounted to 591 099 tenge, an increase compared to the IV quarter of 2024 amounted to 3.2%.

The real wage index in IV quarter 2025 was 98.9%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 369 772 tenge, which is 16.1% higher than in IV quarter 2024, Rate of increase real cash income for the specified period is 1.9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-March 2026 amounted to 526 603.7 million tenge in current prices, which is 13.1% more than in January-March 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 15.7%, in the manufacturing industry -increased by 9.4%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities -volumes increased by 4.6%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-March 2026 amounted to 12 273.4 million tenge, or 0.3% less then in January-March 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January- March 2026 amounted to 3 427.9 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial tran sportation), or 99% compared to January- March 2026.

The volume of passenger traffic – 197.7 million p-km, or 92.1% by January- March 2026.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 26 479.9 million tenge, or 200.4% compared to January-March 2025.

In January-March 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 11% and amounted to 14.4 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-March 2026 amounted to 40 664.8 million tenge, or 166% by January-March 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as April 1, 2026 amounted to 2887 units and decreased by 1.4%, the corresponding period last year, including 2792 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2612 units, including 2517 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 1967 units and decreased by 0.5% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2025 amounted 1 640 955.7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-September 2024, real GRP increased by 20.5%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 68.7%, services – 29.6%

The consumer price index in March 2026 compared to December 2025 was 103.8%.

In March 2026 compared to December 2025 was prices for food products increased by 5.9%, non-food products – by 2.6%, paid services forthe population – by 1.8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in March 2026 compared to December 2025 increased 1.1%.

The volume of retail trade January- March 2026 amounted to 30 025.3 million tenge, or 0.3% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- March 2026 amounted to 28 467.5 million tenge, or 0.1% more than amounted to the more period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-February 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 5.1 million US dollars and decreased to 20.6% compared to January- February 2025, including exports – 0.2 million US dollars (by 88.8% less), imports –4.9 million US dollars (15.2% more).
