Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 221,6 thousand people, including 175,6 thousand people (79,2% ) - urban, 46,0 thousand people (20,8%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- April 2024 amounted to 805 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 841 people).

The number of births as January-April 2024 amounted to 1413 people (2,7% less than in January-April 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 608 people (0,5% less than in January-April 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -800 people (in January-April 2023 - -535 people), including in external migration- a negative balance of -5 people (-12), in internal – negative-795 people (-523).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 4174 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,2% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of June 1, 2024 amounted to 2536 people, or 2,4% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 501 624 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 11,3%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 101,8%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 291 600 tenge, which is 23,2% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 11%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-May 2024 amounted to 475 859,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 1,9% more than in January-May 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 1,2%, in the manufacturing industry - by 2,1%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 8,8%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 20,1%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-May 2024 amounted to 24 023,4 million tenge, or 99,7% by January-May 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-May 2024 amounted to 5 839,9 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 88,5% compared to January- May 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 423,9 million pkm, or 127,4% by January- May 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 32 059,7 million tenge, or 108,9% compared to January-May 2023.

In January-May 2024, the total area of housing put into operation decreased by 17,8% and amounted to 19,6 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-May 2024 amounted to 61 267,2 million tenge, or 114% by January-May 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as June1, 2024 amounted to 2969 units and amounted to 100% of the level of the corresponding period last year, including 2876 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2642 units, including 2550 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 2002 units and decreased by 1,7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-February 2024 compared to January-February 2023 amounted to 105,7%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 1 949728,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-Desember 2022, real GRP increased by 21,1%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 60,0%, services – 23,7%.

The consumer price index in May 2024 compared to December 2023 was 102,7%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,7%, non-food products – by 1.9%, paid services for the population – by 3,7%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in May 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased 1,6%.

The volume of retail trade in January-May 2024 amounted to 39362,3 million tenge, or 4,3% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- May 2024 amounted to 38587,1 million tenge, or 104,5% amounted to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-April 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 23,5 million US dollars and amounted to 78,6% compared to January-April 2023, including exports – 6,4 million US dollars (by 44,2%), imports – 17,1 million US dollars(111,2%).
