Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 218.4 thou sand people, including 173.7 thousand people (79.5%) - urban, 44.7 thousand people (20.5%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2026 amounted to 332 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year – 414 people).

The number of births as January-March 2026 amounted to 738 people (14.1% less than in January-March 2025), the number of deaths amounted to 406 people (8.8% less than in January-March 2025).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -961 people (in January-March 2025 – -824 people), including in external migration – 15 people (-13), in internal – -976 people (-811).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2026 amounted to 3994 people.

The unemployment rate was 4.1% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2026 amounted to 2359 people, or 2.4% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the І quarter of 2026 amounted to 655 995 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 9.5%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2026 was 96.6%.

In the IV quarter of 2025 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 369 772 tenge, which is 16.1% higher than in IV quarter 2024, Rate of increase real cash income for the specified period is 1.9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2026 amounted to 691 165.9 million tenge in current prices, which is 15.7% more than in January-April 2025.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 18%, in the manufacturing industry -increased by 12.9%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 5.9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities -volumes increased by 2.2%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) in January-April 2026 amounted to 15 061.6 million tenge, or 0.4% less then in January-April 2025.

The volume of cargo turnover in January- April 2026 amounted to 4 343.5 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial tran sportation), or 94.8% compared to January- April 2026.

The volume of passenger traffic – 264.7 million p-km, or 91.6% by January- April 2026.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 69 442.8 million tenge, or 372% compared to January-April 2025.

In January-April 2026, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 8.7% and amounted to 18.8 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2026 amounted to 93 934.9 million tenge, or 258% by January-April 2025.

The number of registered legal entities as May 1, 2026 amounted to 2890 units and decreased by 1.6%, the corresponding period last year, including 2795 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2615 units, including 2520 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 1971 units and decreased by 0.7% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2025 amounted 2 986 088,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- December 2024, real GRP increased by 20%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 73.2%, services – 25.5%

The consumer price index in April 2026 compared to December 2025 was 104.8%.

In April 2026 compared to December 2025 was prices for food products increased by 6.4%, non-food products – by 4.2%, paid services forthe population – by 2.9%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2026 compared to December 2025 increased 1.7%.

The volume of retail trade January- April 2026 amounted to 39 799.3 million tenge, or 1.3% more than the corresponding period in 2025.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- April 2026 amounted to 37 998.7 million tenge, or 1.6% more than amounted to the more period in 2025.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2026, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 8.3 million US dollars and decreased to 20.4% compared to January- March 2025, including exports – 1.2 million US dollars (by 54% less), imports –7.1 million US dollars (9.6% less).
