Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2025 amounted to 220.9 thousand people, including 175.5 thousand people (79.4%) - urban, 45.4 thousand people (20.6%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2025 amounted to 414 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 573 people).

The number of births as January-March 2025 amounted to 859 people (17.1% less than in January--March 2024), the number of deaths amounted to 445 people (3.9% less than in January-March 2024).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -824 people (in January-March 2024 – -624 people), including in external migration – -13 people (4), in internal – -811 people (-628).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2025 amounted to 4013 people.

The unemployment rate was 4.1% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2025 amounted to 2529 people, or 2.6% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the           I quarter of 2025 amounted to 599 046 tenge, an increase compared to the III quarter of 2024 amounted to 19.4%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2025 was 109.1%.

In the IV quarter of 2024 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 320 045 tenge, which is 8.9% higher than in IV quarter 2023, rate of increase real cash income for the specified period is 1.6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2025 amounted to 461 009,8 million tenge in current prices, which is 3,7% less than in January-April 2024.

In the mining industry, production volumes decreased by 6,9%, in the manufacturing industry - by 0,4 %, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 6,3%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities -volumes increased by 1,2%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products ( services) in January-April 2025 amounted to 13 557,8 million tenge, or 1,3% by January-April 2024.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2025 amounted to 4 588.7 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 98.2% compared to January-April 2024.

The volume of passenger traffic – 288.9 million pkm, or 86.4% by January-April 2024.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 17 813 million tenge, or 79,5% compared to January- April 2024.

In January- April 2025, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 19.1% and amounted to 17,3 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January- April 2025 amounted to 34 635,6 million tenge, or 70,7% by January- April 2024.

The number of registered legal entities as May 1, 2025 amounted to 2938 units and decrease 0.9% the corresponding period last year, including 2850 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2553 units, including 2466 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 1985 units and decreased by 0.6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-September 2024 amounted 1 361 367.8 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January-September 2023, real GRP increased by 10.5%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 70.7%, services – 22.6%

The consumer price index in April 2025 compared to December 2024 was 105.3%.

Prices for food products increased by 7.6%, non-food products – by 3.5%, paid services for   the population – by 4.3%.        

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2025 compared to December 2024 increased 1.2%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2025 amounted to 35 315.8 million tenge, or 4.6% more than the corresponding period in 2024.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2025 amounted to 32 632.2 million tenge, or 5.8% more than amounted to the corresponding period in 2024.

According to preliminary data, in Januar-March 2025, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 10.3 million US dollars and decreased to 46.9% compared to January- March 2024, including exports – 2.5 million US dollars (by 47.5% less), imports –7.8 million US dollars (46.7 less).
