Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 221,6 thousand people, including 175,7 thousand people (79,3% )

- urban, 45,9 thousand people (20,7%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- June 2024 amounted to 1132 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 1292 people).

The number of births as January-June 2024 amounted to 2092 people (5,9% less than in January-June 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 960 people (3,1% more than in January-June 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to -1102 people (in January-June 2023 - -966 people), including in external migration- a negative balance of -5 people (-43), in internal – negative-1097 people (-923).


Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 4268 people.

The unemployment rate was 4,2% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of July 1, 2024 amounted to 2925 people, or 2,9% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the II quarter of 2024 amounted to 522 988 tenge, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 10,2%.

The real wage index in II quarter 2024 was 102,5%.


Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-July 2024 amounted to 694  875,7 million tenge in current prices, which is 7% more than in January-July  2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 4,5%, in the manufacturing industry - by 9,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 9%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 22,2%.

The volume of gross output of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products ( services) in January-July 2024 amounted to 28 406,2 million tenge,  or 99,4% by January-July 2023

The volume of cargo turnover in January-July 2024 amounted to 7 976.2 million t-km (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 88,7% compared to January- July 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 610,8 million pkm, or 132,2% by January- July 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 54 818,1  million tenge, or 125,6% compared to January-July 2023.

In January-July  2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 4,8% and amounted to 34,5 thousand square meters.

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-July 2024 amounted to 95  138,2 million tenge, or 111,3% by January-July  2023.

The number of registered legal entities as August 1, 2024 amounted to 2952 units and decrease 1,7% the corresponding  period  last  year, including 2861 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 2622 units, including 2532 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 1990  units and decreased by 3.4%  compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The volume of gross regional product for January-March 2024 amounted to 430 328,3 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- March 2023, real GRP increased by 4,4%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 70,1%, services – 23,2%.

The consumer price index in  July 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103,8%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,8%, non-food products – by 3%, paid services for the population – by 6,8%.            The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in July 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased 1,7%.

The volume of retail trade in January-July 2024 amounted to 59  807,1 million tenge, or 0,4% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- July 2024 amounted to 57 745,7 million tenge, or 5,4% amounted to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-June 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 33,3 million US dollars and amounted to 70,3% compared to January-June 2023, including exports – 10,1 million US dollars (by 44,8%), imports – 23,2 million US dollars (6,7%).
