    The Short-Term Economic Indicator (STEI) for January-May 2026 to January- May 2025 amounted to 104,3%.
    STEI by types of economic activity and regional breakdown

    In January-May 2026 compared to January- May 2025, the highest growth rates of physical volume indices are observed in the sectors of construction (113,4%), transportation and storage (108,4%) and trade (105,6%).

    The lowest growth in physical volume indices occurred in the sectors of industry (102,5%) agriculture (103,6%) and communication (103,7%).

    In January- May 2026 compared to January- May 2025, most regions showed positive growth rates in STEI.

    The highest rates are observed in Turkistan region (123,3%), Ulytau region (118,7%) and Soltustik Кazakhstan region (116,5%). Negative growth rates have developed in Batys Kazakhstan region (92,1%), Аtyrau region (92,5%), Akmola region (96,4%) and Shygys Kazakhstan region (98,2%).

    Methodological explanations

    The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure timeliness and is based on changes in production indices in key sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communication which constitute over 60% of GDP.
