    The Short-Term Economic Indicator (STEI) for January-May 2024 to January-May 2023 amounted to103,7%
    STEI by types of economic activity and regional breakdown

    In January-May 2024 compared to January-May 2023, the highest growth rates of physical volume indices are observed in the sectors of communication (108,7%), construction (108,1%) and transportation and storage (107,1%).

    The lowest growth in physical volume indices occurred in the sectors of agriculture (101,6%), industry (103,0%)andtrade (103,1%).

    In January-May 2024 compared to January-May 2023, most regions showed positive growth rates in STEI. Negative growth rates were observed in Atyrau (95,5%),Zhambyl (97,5%) and in Mangystau (99,5%) regions. The highest growth rates are seen in city Astana (112,7%),Aktobe region (112,4%)and in Zhetisu region (111,1%).

    Methodological explanations

    The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure timeliness and is based on changes in production indices in key sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport, and communication, which constitute over 60% of GDP.
