    The Short-Term Economic Indicator (STEI) for January-August 2026 to January-August 2025 amounted to 104,9%.
    STEI by types of economic activity and regional breakdown

    In January-August 2026 compared to January-August 2025, the highest growth rates of physical volume indices are observed in the sectors of construction (115,6%), transportation and storage (107,3%) and trade (106%).

    The lowest growth in physical volume indices occurred in the sectors of industry (102,8%), communication (104,4%) and agriculture (105,2%).

    In January-August 2026 compared to January-August 2025, most regions showed positive growth rates in STEI. The highest rates are observed in Turkistan region (121,9%), Shymkent city (117,6%) and Аlmaty region (115%). Negative growth rates have developed in Batys Kazakhstan (93,9%), Аtyrau (95%), Shygys Kazakhstan (97,4%) and Akmola (99,4%) regions.

    Methodological explanations

    The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure timeliness and is based on changes in production indices in key sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communication which constitute over 60% of GDP.
