Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 697,0 thousand people, including 311,0 thousand people (44,6% ) - urban, 386,0 thousand people (55,4%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January-March 2024 amounted to 1885 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 1881 people).

The number of births as January- March 2024 amounted to 3153 people (1,1% less than in January- March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1268 people (3,1% less than in January- March 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - 2896 people (in January- March 2023 - -1748 people), including in external migration - a positive balance of - +64 people (+25), in internal - negative - 2960 people and (-1773).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 15046 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force. The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 18071 people, or 5,7% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 270205 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 9,7%. The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 100,1%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 127446 tenge, which is 18,1% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 106,6%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 92 148,8 million tenge in current prices, which is 1,2% less than in January- April 2023.

In the mining industry, production volumes increased by 172,3%, in the manufacturing industry volumes decreased - by 10,5% in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air there was by 3,2% in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 16,9%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January- April 2024 amounted to 57 802,7 million tenge, or 101,2% by January- April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 3 649,1 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 78,8% compared to January-March 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 191,1 million pkm, or 91,1% by January- April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 40346,4 million tenge, or 226,4% compared to January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 15,3% and amounted to 65,2 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings – 174,7% (25,2 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation increased by 5,1% (40,0 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 59020.5 million tenge, or 127,0% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 8 272 units and increased by 2% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8 043 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 6 687 units, including 6 459 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6 196 units and increased by 3,8 % compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January- April 2024 compared to January- April 2023 amounted to 110,3%.  The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 1923707,9 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- December 2022, real GRP increased by 16,2%. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 41,0%, services – 59,0%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103.8%.

Prices for food products increased by 4.2%, non-food products – by 1.6%, paid services for the population – by 5.8%. The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 decreased by 0.9%.

The volume of retail trade in January- April 2024 amounted to 77012.4 million tenge, or 130,9% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January- April 2024 amounted to 116 300.8 million tenge, or 93.3% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 30 082,6 thousand US dollars sand decreased by 19,8% compared to January-March 2023, including exports –17033,1 thousand US dollars (by 24,3% less), imports – 13049,5 thousand US dollars(12,9% less).
