Summary of the socio-economic development of the region
Population size and migration

The population of the region as of April 1, 2024 amounted to 606,5 thousand people, including 372,6 thousand people (61,4% ) - urban, 233,9 thousand people (38,6%) - rural residents.

The natural increase in the population in January- March 2024 amounted to 972 people (in the corresponding period of the previous year - 1014 people).

The number of births as January-March 2024 amounted to 2320 people (2,2% less than in January-March 2023), the number of deaths amounted to 1348 people (0,8% less than in January- March 2023).

The balance of migration is negative and amounted to - -2034 people (in January- March 2023 - -1071 people), including in external migration a negative balance of - -202 people (-15), in internal - negative - 1832 people and (-1056).

Labor and income

The number of unemployed in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 14,5 thousand people.

The unemployment rate was 4,8% of the labor force.

The number of persons registered with employment agencies as unemployed as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 11,1 thousand people, or 3,5% of the labor force.

The average monthly nominal wages accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activities) in the I quarter of 2024 amounted to 322830 tenge, an increase compared to the I quarter of 2023 amounted to 114,2%.

The real wage index in I quarter 2024 was 104,4%.

In the IV quarter of 2023 the average per capita nominal cash income of the population of the region, according to the estimate, amounted to 168246 tenge, which is 14% higher than in IV quarter 2022, the growth rate of real cash income for the specified period is 103,9%.

Industry statistics

The volume of industrial production in January-April 2024 amounted to 573712,9 million tenge in current prices, which is 0,1% more than in January-April 2023.

In the mining industry volume of production desreased by 0,3%, in the manufacturing industry volume of production desreased by 0,3%, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioned air volume of production increased by 8,1%, in water supply, collection, processing and waste disposal, pollution elimination activities - by 10,6%.

The volume of gross output of agricultural products (services) in January-April 2024 amounted to 82251,3 million tenge, or 102,7% by January-April 2023.

The volume of cargo turnover in January-April 2024 amounted to 4504,3 million tkm (taking into account the assessment of the volume of cargo turnover of individual entrepreneurs engaged in commercial transportation), or 89,4% compared to January- April 2023.

The volume of passenger traffic – 323,3 million pkm, or 84,5% by January- April 2023.

The volume of construction works (services) amounted to 28186,2 million tenge, or 103,7% compared to January-April 2023.

In January-April 2024, the total area of housing put into operation increased by 8,2% and amounted to 65,1 thousand square meters, of which in multi-apartment buildings - by 193,8% (46,5 thousand square meters). At the same time, the total area of individual residential buildings put into operation decreased by 35,7% (18,6 thousand square meters).

The volume of investments in fixed capital in January-April 2024 amounted to 74008,7 million tenge, or 80,1% by January-April 2023.

The number of registered legal entities as of May 1, 2024 amounted to 8337 units and increased by 2,1% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year, including 8061 units with less than 100 employees. The number of operating legal entities amounted to 6744 units, including 6468 units - small businesses. The number of registered small and medium enterprises (legal entities) in the region amounted to 6249 units and increased by 1,6% compared to the corresponding date of the previous year.

Economics

The short-term economic indicator for January-April 2024 compared to January-April 2023 amounted to 101,7%. The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure efficiency and is based on changes in output indices for basic sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communications, accounting for over 60% of GDP.

The volume of gross regional product for January-December 2023 amounted to 3034101,7 million tenge at current prices. Compared to the corresponding period of January- December 2022, real GRP increased by 5,8 %. In the structure of GRP, the share of production of goods amounted to 50%, and services – 43%.

The consumer price index in April 2024 compared to December 2023 was 103%.

Prices for food products increased by 2,8%, non-food products–by 1,3%, paid services for the population–by 4,8%.

The prices of enterprises producing industrial products in April 2024 compared to December 2023 increased–by 4,4%.

The volume of retail trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 147225,6 million tenge, or 2,5% more than the corresponding period in 2023.

The volume of wholesale trade in January-April 2024 amounted to 76855,0 million tenge, or 114,1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

According to preliminary data, in January-March 2024, mutual trade with the EAEU countries amounted to 116334,1 thousand US dollars and decreased by 44,9% compared to January-March 2023, including exports – 42170,4 thousand US dollars (by 30,7% less), imports – 74163,7 thousand US dollars (61% less).
