    The Short-Term Economic Indicator (STEI) for January-May 2025 to January-May 2024 amounted to 108,6%.
    STEI by types of economic activity and regional breakdown

    In January-May 2025 compared to January-May 2024, the highest growth rates of physical volume indices are observed in the sectors of transportation and storage (123,1%), construction (115,4%), trade (107,8%) and industry (106,4%).

    The lowest growth in physical volume indices occurred in the sectors of communication (102,8%) and agriculture (104%).

    In January-May 2025 compared to January-May 2024, most regions showed positive growth rates in STEI. The highest growth rates are seen in Turkistan region (120,4%), Astana city (120%), Shymkent city (117,7%) and Zhambyl region (116,8%). Negative growth rates have developed in Shygys Kazakhstan region (95,1%) and Ulytau region (96,7%).

    Methodological explanations

    The calculation of the short-term economic indicator is carried out to ensure timeliness and is based on changes in production indices in key sectors: agriculture, industry, construction, trade, transport and communication which constitute over 60% of GDP.
