    Regionally in January-July 2025, increased in cargo turnover is noted in cities: Astana (13.8%), Almaty (3.3%), Atyrau (44.9%), Zhetisu (42.7%), Mangystau (28.8%), Abay (28.3%), Turkistan (22.9%), Pavlodar (17.9%), Batys Kazakhstan (12.6%), Almaty (9.2%), Aktobe (8.9%), Karagandy (8.27%), Kostanay (8.4%), Kyzylorda (4.3%) and Soltustik Kazakhstan (1.5%) regions.

    Passenger turnover increased in the following cities: Almaty (25.4%), Shymkent (24.2%), Almaty (1.8 times), Mangystau (20.8%), Abay (19.1%), Kyzylorda (19%), Turkistan (18.6%), Karagandy (15.3%), Shygys Kazakhstan (11.8%), Atyrau (10.9%), %), Aktobe (8%), Batys Kazakhstan (6.3%), Pavlodar (5.2%) and Zhetisu (0.7%) regions.

    Railway transport

    In January-July 2025, 260.4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail in the republic which is 11.9% up than the level of January-July 2024, cargo turnover during this period amounted to 195.2 billion. t-km (increased by 7.4% compared to January-July 2024), 11.5 million passengers were transported (6.3% less than in January-July 2024), passenger turnover amounted to 9.3 billion p-km (decreased by 1.7% compared to January-July 2024).

    Automobile and urban electric transport*

    In January-July 2025, compared to the same period last year there was an increase in cargo transportation by 1.2% and cargo turnover of road transport increase by 32.7%. Passenger transportation and passenger transportation also increased by 11% and 17.7%, respectively.

    Pipeline transport

    In January-July 2025, 199.2 million tons of cargo were transported (17.3% more than in January-July 2024), cargo turnover amounted to 102.2 billion. t-km (increased by 17.5% compared to January-July 2024).

    Air transport

    In January-July 2025, 8.9 million passengers were transported by air transport of the republic (increased by 7.3% compared to January-July 2024), passenger turnover amounted to 17.6 billion p-km (increased by 8.9% compared to January-July 2024).

    Inland waterway transport

    In January-July 2025, 92.1 thousand tons of cargo were transported by inland waterway (decreased by 58.4% compared to January-July 2024), 178.3 thousand passengers were transported (increased by 13.6% compared to January-July 2024).

    Marine and coastal transport

    In January-July 2025, 2 257.3 thousands tons of cargo were transported by sea, there is an increase in cargo transportation by 37.1% compared to January-July 2024, cargo turnover amounted to 1 039.6 million tons-km and increased by 7.6% compared to January-July 2024.

    Glossary

    Transported cargo – the amount of cargo in tons transported by transport.

    Cargo turnover of transport – the volume of work of transport for the transportation of goods, expressed in ton-kilometers. It is defined as the sum of the products of the weight of each batch (shipment) of the transported cargo over the distance of its transportation.

    Transported passengers – the number of passengers transported over a certain period of time. The unit of observation in passenger transportation statistics is a passenger-trip.

    Passenger turnover of transport – the volume of work of transport for the transportation of passengers. The unit of measurement is the passenger-kilometer, i.e. the movement of 1 passenger over a distance of 1 kilometer. It is determined by summing the products of the number of passengers of each carriage by the distance of carriage in kilometers.

    The physical volume index – is a relative indicator that characterizes the change in the quantitative volumes of freight and passenger traffic in the reporting period compared to the base period and is calculated on the basis of the weighted average growth rate of revenue from the transportation of goods and passengers.
