    The sample survey "The level of public confidence in law enforcement agencies and the judicial system" was conducted in April-May 2023 in all regions of the republic, both in urban and rural areas.

    According to the survey results, 57.9% of respondents feel completely safe in their area of residence, 33.7% feel safe enough, 6.5% feel unsafe, 1.1% chose completely unsafe, and 0.8% found it difficult to answer.

    According to the respondents, the main reasons for insecurity are insufficient lighting – 21.4%, fear of being attacked – 16.0% and fear of going out alone – 16.7%.

    By region, the largest number of registered crimes for the first half of the year (January- June) 2023 in Almaty (13696 cases), Astana (8974 cases), Almaty region (5409 cases), Karaganda (4655 cases), Shymkent (3511 cases), Kostanay region (3032 cases).

    Law enforcement body – a state body that ensures the observance and protection of the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, the legitimate interests of individuals and legal entities, the state, implements the state policy on combating crime and other offenses in accordance with its competence, endowed with special powers to ensure the rule of law and maintain public order, detection, prevention, suppression, investigation of offenses, execution of court decisions in criminal cases;

    A crime – a guilty socially dangerous act (action or inaction) prohibited by the criminal legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the threat of punishment in the form of a fine, correctional labor, involvement in public works, restriction of freedom and imprisonment.

    Methodological explanations

    This publication presents the results of a sample survey "The level of public confidence in law enforcement agencies".

    The survey involved 18,005 randomly selected households, or 0.35% of the total number of households in the country. In the sample survey, one household member aged 15 years or older was interviewed.

    The purpose of the survey is to obtain representative data on the level of public confidence in law enforcement agencies, on the perception of their own safety and subjective assessment of the level of crime, as well as obtaining information about offenses.

    The survey is carried out by questioning the population and recording information in a statistical form. The survey is carried out by conducting interviews by specially trained interviewers by visiting households.

    The statistical form of the survey contains the following sections:

    - information about the respondent;

    - perception of one's own safety and subjective assessment of the level of crime;

    - the degree of trust in law enforcement agencies;

    - information about offenses.

      Survey indicators are given for the entire population.

      In some cases, minor discrepancies between the total and the sum of terms are explained by automatic rounding of data.
