    Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan slowed down from 9.8% in 2023 to 8.6% in 2024. For the month, inflation amounted to 0.9% (the same as the previous month).

    Prices for paid services the year increased by 13.3% (in 2023 – 12.4%), non-food products – by 8.3% (in 2023 – 9.1%), food products – by 5.5% (in 2023 – 8.5%).
    Dynamics of inflation

    Compared to the previous year, tariffs for cold water increased by 43.1%, water disposal – by 25.7%, central heating – by 22.3%, hot water – by 19.2%, electricity – by 18.4%, gas transported through distribution networks – by 12.1%, garbage collection – by 10.3%.

    Prices for services of organization of comprehensive recreation increased by 23.9%, connection services– by 16.8%, hairdressers and personal service establishments – by 12.5%, health services – by 11.1%, maintenance and repair of personal vehicles services – by 10.9%, catering services – by 10.4%, recreation and sporting activities services – by 9.5%. Travel by rail passenger transport increased by 24.9%, city bus – by 11.8%, air passenger transport – by 10.1%. The cost of renting housing increased by 12.3%.

    The price level for audiovisual and photographic equipment increased by 42.2%, new domestically assembled cars – by 28.2%, jewelry and watches – by 22.2%, clothes and shoes – by 10.5%, pharmaceutical products, furniture and household items – by 10.2%, personal goods – by 6.9%, building materials – by 5.3%. Firewood in price by 15.6%, liquefied gas in cylinders – by 10.1%, coal rose – by 8.6%. Price reductions were recorded for small electrical appliances by 20.1%, for dishes – by 10.3%.

    Increases in prices was noted for tobacco products – by 15.9%, mineral and drinking water – by 15.3%, confectionery – by 12.8%, fresh vegetables – by 12.4%, gold drinks – by 11.7%, processed and canned fish – by 10.7%, ice cream – by 10.6%, fruit and vegetable juices – by 10.5%. A decrease in prices was observed for buckwheat by 21.4%, carrot – by 8.7%.

    Regionally in 2024, the inflation rate exceeding the republican average was observed in ten regions, of which the highest was in Astana city (10.7%) and Karagandy region (9.6%).

    Contribution to the annual rate of inflation

    The largest contribution to the annual inflation rate was made by food and non-alcoholic drinks (2.1 percentage point), housing services (1.8 percentage points), clothes and shoes (1 percentage point).

    Over the year, prices for fruits and vegetables increased by 9.3% and made the main contribution to inflation of 0.6 percentage points. The rise in prices for meat and meat products by 3.4% contributed 0.4 percentage points, soft drinks (by 8.4%), dairy products (by 6.1%), bakery products and cereals (by 3.5% ) – 0.2 percentage points per annual inflation.

    Housing and communal services have risen in price by 14.2% over the year and their contribution to inflation amounted to 1.8 percentage points. Over the past year, electricity tariffs increased by 18.4% and contributed to annual inflation by 0.4 percentage points, housing rental tariffs (by 12.3%) – by 0.3 percentage points, tariffs for cold water (by 43.1%), central heating (by 22.3%) – by 0.2 percentage points each.

    Glossary

    Inflation - an indicator that characterizes the change in time of the average price level for a fixed list of goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption.

    Contribution - the amount of influence of the percentage change in the indicator on the overall value of inflation.

    Methodological explanations

    The consumer price index, which characterizes the level of inflation, reflects the change over time in the general level of prices for goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption.

    The calculation of the consumer price index is based on information obtained from two sources:

    • data on price changes collected by their direct registration in specially selected for this purpose outlets and places of services;
    • household survey materials regarding the structure of actual consumer spending of the population.

    The collection of information on price changes is carried out in a selective circle of cities and regional centers, in all regional centers, in cities of republican significance and the capital. The choice of basic trade and service enterprises is carried out locally. Objects of all types of trade and paid services are selected so that the survey includes enterprises with different trading conditions and regularly selling goods (services) of mass demand.

    The set of goods and services for monitoring consumer prices and calculating the CPI is a single sample for all regions of Kazakhstan. The list of goods and services contains 508 items, which representatively includes the most representative types that occupy the largest share in the consumption of the population.

    The collection of information on prices is carried out directly at the places of sale of goods (services) by price registrars. Prices are fixed for goods paid on the day of the survey, including taxes, but excluding additional fees for their delivery.
