Transport Regionally in January-September 2025, increased in cargo turnover is noted in cities: Astana (16,2%), Almaty (1,1%), Atyrau (47,5%), Zhetisu (42,4%), Abay (31,2%), Mangystau (28,4%), Turkistan (23,4%), Pavlodar (14,5%), Kostanay (9,3%), Aktobe (9,3%), Batys Kazakhstan (8,7%), Almaty (8,5%), Karagandy (6,9%), Kyzylorda (4,6%), Soltustik Kazakhstan (1,7%) and Abay(0,6%) regions.
Passenger turnover increased in the following cities: Shymkent (26,8%), Almaty (25,4%), Almaty (1,6 times), Turkistan (20%), Kyzylorda (16,4%), Abay (12,6%), Karagandy (12,3%), Mangystau (11,3%), Shygys Kazakhstan (10,1%), Batys Kazakhstan (5,9%), Aktobe (5,8%), Zhetisu (5,4%) and Pavlodar (4%) regions.

In January-September 2025, 339,4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail in the republic which is 10,5% up than the level of January-September 2024, cargo turnover during this period amounted to 255 billion, t-km (increased by 7,6% compared to January-September 2024), 14,9 million passengers were transported (6,7% less than in January-September 2024), passenger turnover amounted to 12,2 billion p-km (decreased by 2,5% compared to January-September 2024).
In January-September 2025, compared to the same period last year there was an increase in cargo transportation by 1,4% and cargo turnover of road transport increase by 32,3%, Passenger transportation and passenger transportation also increased by 11,7% and 14,8%, respectively.
In January-September 2025, 255 million tons of cargo were transported (15,9% more than in January-September 2024), cargo turnover amounted to 130,9 billion, t-km (increased by 16,9% compared to January-September 2024).
In January-September 2025, 11,9 million passengers were transported by air transport of the republic (increased by 6,9% compared to January-September 2024), passenger turnover amounted to 23,3 billion p-km (increased by 7,8% compared to January-September 2024).
In January-September 2025, 167,8 thousand tons of cargo were transported by inland waterway (decreased by 46,3% compared to January-September 2024), 250,5 thousand passengers were transported (increased by 10,2% compared to January-September 2024).
In January-September 2025, 2 812,5 thousands tons of cargo were transported by sea, there is an increase in cargo transportation by 32,8% compared to January-September 2024, cargo turnover amounted to 1 297,7 million tons-km and increased by 6,8% compared to January-September 2024.
Transported cargo – the amount of cargo in tons transported by transport.
Cargo turnover of transport – the volume of work of transport for the transportation of goods, expressed in ton-kilometers. It is defined as the sum of the products of the weight of each batch (shipment) of the transported cargo over the distance of its transportation.
Transported passengers – the number of passengers transported over a certain period of time. The unit of observation in passenger transportation statistics is a passenger-trip.
Passenger turnover of transport – the volume of work of transport for the transportation of passengers. The unit of measurement is the passenger-kilometer, i.e. the movement of 1 passenger over a distance of 1 kilometer. It is determined by summing the products of the number of passengers of each carriage by the distance of carriage in kilometers.
The physical volume index – is a relative indicator that characterizes the change in the quantitative volumes of freight and passenger traffic in the reporting period compared to the base period and is calculated on the basis of the weighted average growth rate of revenue from the transportation of goods and passengers.
