Definition of the Indicator
The number of maternal deaths during the time period under study per 100,000 live births during the same time period. This indicator reflects the risk of maternal mortality in relation to the number of children born alive, and essentially captures the risk of death as a result of one pregnancy or one live-born child.

Methodology for Calculation
It is calculated by dividing the registered maternal mortality by the total number of registered live births over the same period and multiplied by 100,000. The measurement requires information about the pregnancy status, the timing of death (during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy), and its cause.
