Definition of the Indicator
(a) The proportion of seats held by women in national parliaments, as of February 1 of the reporting year, is currently measured as the number of seats held by women members of Parliament in a unicameral Parliament or at the lower level of a bicameral Parliament, expressed as a percentage of all occupied seats.
Methodology for Calculation
The proportion of seats held by women in the national Parliament is determined by dividing the total number of seats held by women by the total number of seats in Parliament. The proportion of seats held by women in local government is determined by dividing the total number of seats held by women by the total number of seats in local government.
