Representatives of the Bureau visited the Turkish Statistical Institute

Representatives of the Bureau visited the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) as part of an exchange of experience, where they had the opportunity to study issues related to the dissemination of official statistical information, the improvement of communication policy, and the expansion of access to statistical data for the academic community.

One of the key areas of the program focused on the practice of granting research institutions access to de-identified microdata in a secure digital environment. Participants were introduced to the functioning of TUIK’s Virtual Research Data Center, which enables secure interaction with databases while ensuring that personal information is not disclosed. This approach complies with international standards in official statistics and national data protection legislation, thereby supporting the development of scientific and applied research.

Participants were also presented with a comprehensive strategy for data dissemination through the official website, electronic platforms, publications, and social media channels. The discussions included statistical data visualization, content adaptation for various target audiences, and methods for regularly assessing user satisfaction. The team became acquainted with the operations of the ALO124 call center and the practice of distributing statistical forms and publications.

Special attention was given to the E-VAM platform — the national system that ensures secure access to microdata for research organizations. Participants explored the application submission process, data protection procedures, and organizational measures aimed at safeguarding confidentiality.

At the conclusion of the visit, both parties summarized the outcomes and outlined prospects for further cooperation in the field of statistics and digital solutions.
