The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has officially confirmed Kazakhstan’s adherence to the Recommendation on Good Statistical Practice. This is the OECD’s first legal instrument in the field of statistics, and Kazakhstan has become the first country in the CIS region to join it.

The Recommendation is an international standard comprising 12 principles aimed at ensuring the independence, objectivity, transparency, and high quality of official statistics. Kazakhstan’s accession to the Recommendation signifies that its national statistical system meets the OECD’s key requirements and is developing in line with global best practices.

The OECD’s decision is the result of a comprehensive analysis carried out as part of the Review of Kazakhstan’s National Statistical System for the period 2023–2025. The review highlights the country’s significant progress in the digitalization of statistics, the adoption of modern methodologies, and the strengthening of user trust in data.

“This is an important recognition for Kazakhstan’s statistical system. It confirms our compliance with essential requirements such as adequate resources, confidentiality protection, a stable legal and institutional framework, and readiness to use new and alternative data sources. The document emphasizes that the quality of statistics directly affects the quality of analysis and decision-making. We will strive to maintain our current level and continue to move forward,” said Maxat Turlubayev, Head of the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann noted:
“We look forward to continuing our collaboration and further supporting your government’s efforts in progressing towards a high-quality, and institutionally solid statistical system.”

Kazakhstan has become the 44th country recognized by the OECD as meeting the standards of the Recommendation on Good Statistical Practice, and the first among the organisation’s external partners.

It should be noted that the accession process was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
