Paris, June 17, 2024 - Head of the Bureau of National Statistics of the ASPR of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maxat Turlubayev spoke at a meeting of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The meeting discussed issues of improving the model of statistical estimates and data collection, addressing information gaps, using artificial intelligence tools and other issues.
In his speech, M. Turlubayev informed the Committee about the measures taken in Kazakhstan to improve the national statistical system, changes in legislation on the active use of administrative and alternative data, aimed at ensuring the quality, accessibility and relevance of data.

As part of the event, with the support of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the international organizations, in Paris, M. Turlubayev met with Paul Schreyer, Chief Statistician and Head of the OECD Statistics and Data Directorate. The interlocutors discussed issues of cooperation with the Organization and studying the advanced experience and best practices of OECD member states, continuing the review of the national statistical system of Kazakhstan, as well as further steps to prepare for accession to an important legal instrument of the Organization - the Recommendation on Good Statistical Practice.

The Committee meeting also included an exchange of views and experiences with representatives of Member States and partners of the OECD and international organisations.
Based on the results of the event, the Bureau of National Statistics of ASPR RK intends to continue comprehensive interaction with the Secretariat and OECD member states on further improvement of statistical policies and practices.

The OECD Recommendation on Good Statistical Practice is the first legal document of the OECD concerning statistics and represents a detailed plan for the creation of a reliable and trustworthy national statistical system. As noted in the document, the quality of statistics is fundamental to the quality of the scientifically based analytical work of the Organization, as well as to the quality of statistical publications and databases issued by the OECD. The Recommendation also provides a benchmark against which countries' national statistical systems can be assessed and constitutes a self-assessment tool for non-member countries that can facilitate needed improvements in their national statistical systems.
