Kazakhstan Elected to the Steering Committee of the UNECE Task Force on Environmental Statistics
A session of the Joint Task Force on environmental statistics and indicators was held in Geneva. The meeting brought together representatives from UNECE, Eurostat, OECD, UNEP, UNSD, UNITAR, as well as delegates from European and Asian countries. The agenda included discussions on environmental reporting, statistical data exchange, the application of international standards for environmental information, the development of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting, and the use of environmental indicators in sustainable development initiatives.
One of the key items on the agenda was the election of the steering committee of the Joint Task Force. Following the vote, Aida Issabekova, director of the Department of production and environmental statistics of the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan, was elected as deputy chair. The mandate is for two years, with the possibility of re-election.
The Kazakh delegation presented materials on the implementation of the UNECE sectoral review recommendations for the current year. During the panel session, Aida Issabekova delivered a report on biodiversity and the development of environmental statistics in Kazakhstan, emphasizing the improvement of environmental data and methods for assessing the state of the environment.
