Kazakhstan contributes to the development of statistical systems in the Asia-Pacific region
The Regional Workshop on Agile Statistical Systems, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the National Statistics Office of Mongolia, was held from 17 to 19 June 2024 in Ulaanbaatar.
The event brought together chief statisticians and Global Assessment coordinators of National Statistical Systems from various countries to strengthen national civil registration and vital statistics systems, including through system reviews and business process improvement efforts. This event provided an opportunity to share Kazakhstan’s experience in conducting the Global Assessment. At the same time, special attention was paid to the main content, as well as certain elements of the process, of interest to countries considering the possibility of conducting such an assessment.
From Kazakhstan, the event was attended by the Head of the Division of International Statistical Cooperation – Saltanat Turmagambetova and the Head of the Division of Database Quality Control of the Department of Data Quality Control and Communications Development - Nikita Burmistrov.
During the seminar, the achieved results in strengthening national statistical systems were discussed and new initiatives were proposed for their further improvement. Particular attention was paid to the "Power of Data" initiative, aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy of statistical data.
The event also served as a platform for a high-level discussion on the topic “Agile Statistical Systems Fit for the Future”, where participants actively exchanged views on key aspects and directions of development in the field of statistics.
The regional workshop reflects the strategic efforts of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in supporting the development of statistical systems, especially in the context of least developed and small island states.
