The Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Graduate School of Public Health of Seoul National University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document will serve as a foundation for long-term cooperation in the fields of demography, statistics, public health and research.

The Memorandum was signed by Maxat Turlubayev, Head of the Bureau of National Statistics, and Professor Young-tae Cho, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Health of Seoul National University.

Opening the meeting, Maxat Turlubayev noted that partnership with one of the leading universities in the Republic of Korea would enable the two sides to combine their expertise, expand academic cooperation and exchange international experience.

“Modern demographic processes require solutions based on high-quality data and scientific analysis. I am confident that the signed Memorandum will provide a strong foundation for implementing joint projects and advancing demographic research,” he said.

One of the key areas of cooperation will be the work of the Bureau of National Statistics’ Centre for Analysis and Forecasting of Demographic Processes. Joint research will focus on improving methods of demographic analysis and forecasting, strengthening scientific expertise and introducing international best practices.
Following the signing ceremony, Professor Young-tae Cho delivered a lecture entitled “Population Projections as a Tool for Building the Future”. The presentation covered modern approaches to demographic forecasting, their practical application in public administration, as well as international experience in using statistical data to develop long-term social policies.

The implementation of the Memorandum will strengthen scientific cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea and contribute to the development of research needed to support long-term government decision-making.
