Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan

In August 2024, the monthly consumer price index slowed down and amounted to 0.6% (in July of this year - 0.7%). Prices for paid services increased by 1.1%, non-food goods – by 0.8%. The food price index was 100%.

In the housing and communal services sector, tariffs for gas transported through distribution networks increased – by 11.6%, for water disposal – by 1.6%, and for cold water – by 0.9%. City bus fares increased – by 9.3%, and taxi fares – by 1.8%. A 1.4% increase in prices was noted for housing rent .

Price increase for school backpack in august this year amounted to 4.7%, children's clothing - by 1.8%, children's footwear - by 1.3%, accessories – by 1.1%. Liquefied gas in cylinders increased in price by 1.7%.

Among food products, prices for oranges increased – by 4.2%, sunflower oil and cabbage – by 2.2% each, onion – by 1.9%. A decrease in prices was noted for grapes – by 10%, sweet peppers – by 8.6%, tomatoes – by 7.8%, cucumbers – by 6.1%, buckwheat – by 3.6%, beets – by 3.2%.

Among the regions, the highest monthly inflation was recorded in the city of Almaty – 1.2% (0.6 percentage points higher than the national average), the lowest – in the Almaty region – 0.1%.

In terms of regions, prices for food products increased the most in the region and Abay by 0.6%, for non-food products - in the Turkestan region by 1.7%, for paid services - in the city of Almaty by 2.2%.


Inflation in August 2024 in annual terms amounted to 8.4%. Prices for paid services increased by 13.6%, non-food products - by 7.7%, food products - by 5.5%.

Compared to August 2023, tariffs for central heating have increased by 33%, garbage collection – by 23.5%, water disposal – by 22.9%, electricity – by 22.8%, and cold water – by 21.9%, hot water – by 20.2%. Health care services increased in price – by 12%, communications – by 14.9%. Prices for acetylsalicylic acid increased – by 58.5 %, activated carbon – by 30.4%, xilac forte – by 24.3%, paracetamol – by 20.1%. Bananas have become more expensive – by 28.3%, tomatoes – by 24.9%, cucumbers, olive oil – by 21.6%, grapes – by 21.2%. On the contrary, in annual terms, cabbage has become cheaper – by 27.6%, buckwheat – by 23.4%, sunflower oil – by 17.2%, onions – by 14.2%.

The consumer price index, which characterizes the level of inflation, is calculated monthly. Observations are carried out on tariffs and prices for services and goods, for a total of 508 items. Dynamic changes in inflation can be viewed on a specially designed interactiveyes board , which covers indicators starting from 2018.

*From January 2024 when constructing the consumer price index, the share of food products is 42.0%, non-food products – 29.8%, paid services – 28.2%.
