Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Inflation slowed from 9.8% in 2023 to 8.6% in 2024. Prices for paid services have increased by 13.3% over the past year, non-food products – by 8.3%, food products – by 5.5%.

In the service sector, tariffs for cold water increased by 43.1%, cellular services – by 27%, sanitation tariffs – by 25.7%, central heating – by 22.3%, hot water – by 19.2%, electricity – by 18.4%. Travel by rail passenger transport increased in price by 24.9%, and by city bus – by 11.8%.

In 2024, a 67.3% increase in laptop prices has been recorded, wireless headphones – by 55.2%, USB flash drive – by 54.9%, tablet – by 45.7%. Liquefied natural gas in cylinders rose in price by 10.1%, solid fuels – by 10.4%.

Food prices for potatoes increased by 37.7%, sweet peppers – by 25.5%, olive oil – by 23%, onions – by 21.2%, tomatoes – by 20.3%, cucumbers – by 18.8%. A decrease in prices was noted for buckwheat groats by 21.4%, carrots – by 8.7%, sugar – by 3.2%, rice – by 2.9%, cabbage – by 1.7%.

Among the regions, the highest annual inflation was registered in Astana city at 10.7% (above the national average by 2.1 percentage points), the lowest in the Almaty region at 6.6%.

By region, food prices increased the most in the Zhetisu region by 7.9%, non-food products in the Turkestan region by 13.2%, and paid services in Astana city by 16.9%.



The consumer price index in December 2024 was 100.9%. Food prices increased by 1.1%, paid services and non-food products – by 0.8%.

Over the past month, prices for cucumbers increased by 31.3%, tomatoes – by 13.2%, sweet peppers – by 10.4%, potatoes – by 6.6%, cabbage – by 5.1%, salted herring – by 4.1%, grapes – by 3.9%, pears – by 3.4%. Prices for hotel services increased by 3.1%, catering, baths – by 2%, photographers – by 1.7%. Rental prices rose by 2.8%. Price increase in December 2024 prices for small electrical products increased by 5.5%, furniture and household items – by 1.2%. Tablet prices increased by 12.8%, gold wedding ring – by 8.3%, medicines – by 0.9%, clothes and shoes – by 0.7%.

The consumer price index, which characterizes the level of inflation, is calculated monthly. Observations are carried out on tariffs and prices for services and goods, for a total of 508 items. Dynamic changes in inflation can be viewed on a specially designed interactive dashboard , which covers indicators starting from 2018.

*From January 2024 when constructing the consumer price index, the share of food products is 42.0%, non-food products – 29.8%, paid services – 28.2%.
