Head of the Bureau of National Statistics held a meeting with the UNFPA resident representative

The Head of the Bureau of National Statistics of the ASPR RK met with Ms. Chinwe Ogbonna, Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Kazakhstan and Country Director for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed issues related to demographic statistics, emphasizing the importance of high-quality and timely data for analysis and the development of effective government programs. Particular attention was given to population projections. UNFPA provides technical support in this area, including the development of analytical materials and forecasts based on the 2021 Population Census data.

The Head of the Bureau expressed appreciation for UNFPA’s longstanding and productive cooperation and support. “We highly value your contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s statistical sector. With your support, extensive national surveys have been conducted, such as the 2021 Population Census and Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS). This data is very important and plays a key role in formulating necessary measures to improve the situation and protect citizens’ rights”, noted Maxat Turlubayev.

In turn, UNFPA reaffirmed its readiness to support preparations for the 2030 Census, including through the introduction of new methodologies using administrative registers. Additionally, a new UNFPA Country Program for 2026–2029 is currently being developed, within which the capacity-building of specialists in demographic analysis will continue.
