The Bureau of National Statistics hosted a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank. The delegation included Albert Francis Park, Chief Economist and Director General of ADB's Economic Research and Development Impact Department, and Mahintan Joseph Mariasingham, Chief Statistician of ADB's Department.
Head of the Bureau Maxat Turlubayev introduced the delegation to the Bureau’s activities, detailing the ongoing transformation within the agency, efforts to enhance the potential of alternative data sources, and improvements in the quality of administrative data through the introduction of the data controller institute.
In turn, the delegates were interested in improving the reliability of data in the agricultural sector, creation of a data ecosystem, publication of statistical compilations and other aspects. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to further develop the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding for 2025-2027 to improve statistical work and data quality.
The Bureau of National Statistics has been partnering with the bank for several years. Previously, ADB has provided technical assistance in generating resource data, reviewed the methodology for estimating the non-observed economy, and supported the training of the Bureau's staff in visual analytics.
