CIS statistical offices discuss issues of forming food resource balances
A two-day meeting dedicated to important aspects of the formation of the food balance sheet has started in Astana. This event is held within the framework of the CIS Statistics Development Project and is designed to ensure the exchange of experience and coordination of methodological approaches between the statistical services of the CIS members.
"The food balance sheet (FBS) is important for analyzing the development of agricultural production and food security. At the meeting in Kazakhstan, the main issues of FBS development in the CIS countries are discussed: methodological, technological and organizational aspects, pooling efforts and resources to improve work. Cooperation contributes to the development of statistics and supports efforts for food security," said Deputy Chairman of the CIS Statistical Committee Andrey Kosarev in his opening speech.
The meeting presented recommendations on the formation of a food balance sheet, developed by the CIS Statistical Committee and agreed upon by the participants of the statistical services of the CIS countries. The main attention was paid to calculation methods, methods of data imputation and balancing of FBS articles, as well as issues of formation of food security indicators.
In her speech, Deputy Head of the Bureau Asel Shauenova expressed gratitude to the CIS Statistical Committee for organizing the event and stressed its importance for sharing experiences and improving the quality of statistical data.
"The central vector of development of the statistical system of Kazakhstan for the next five years will be the digitalization of the entire process of statistical production and the transformation of the national statistical system into a national data system. The approaches and tools presented here will help us to further develop and improve the accuracy of accounting for the production of agricultural food products. In our national practice of building food balances, we are guided by the recommendations of the FAO and the CIS Statistical Committee, as well as their best practices. The use of best practices and compliance with international standards are the priority areas of our Bureau's work," concluded Shauenova.
The discussion process at the meeting included an analysis of the national practices of the CIS countries. The meeting participants stressed the importance of harmonizing approaches and methodologies to achieve a common standard in the formation of food balance sheets.
