About income differentiation of the population in the Republic of Kazakhstan in the II quarter of 2023

According to the results of a sample survey of households, the share of the population with incomes below the subsistence minimum (poverty level) in the II quarter of 2023 was 5.1%.

The highest level of poverty in the II quarter of 2023 was registered in Turkestan (9.7%) region, and the lowest – in Astana (2.5%).


The risk of poverty is strongly influenced by the size of the household. Thus, the poverty rate among households consisting of 5 or more people according to the results of the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 9.2%, which is almost 2 times higher than the overall poverty rate.

 

For reference: The level of poverty is determined by the ratio of the population with incomes used for consumption below the subsistence minimum as a percentage of the total population. The cost of living on average per capita per month in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the II quarter of 2023 amounted to 47 884 tenge.
