    Inflation in the Republic of Kazakhstan in February 2025 accelerated, for the year amounted to 9.4% (in January 2025 – 8.9%), for the month – 1.5% (in the previous month – 1.1%).

    Prices for paid services the year increased by 14.1% (in January 2025 – 13.8%), non-food products – by 8.7% (in January 2025 – 8.4%), food products – by 6.5% (in January 2025 – 5.8%).
    Dynamics of inflation

    Compared to February last year, tariffs for cold water increased by 70.7%, electricity – by 21%, central heating – by 18.2%, water disposal – by 17.3%, hot water – by 14.5%, gas transported through distribution networks – by 13.2%, garbage collection – by 11.1%.

    Prices for services of organization of comprehensive recreation increased by 34%, connection services – by 14.3%, hairdressers and personal service establishments – by 12.3%, health services – by 11.8%, catering services – by 10.8%, maintenance and repair of personal vehicles services – by 10.5%, recreation and sporting activities services – by 9.8%. Travel by rail passenger transport increased by 20%, air passenger transport – by 12.5%, city bus – by 10.5%. The cost of renting housing increased by 16.5%.

    The price level for audiovisual and photographic equipment increased by 42.3%, jewelry and watches – by 24.4%, new domestically assembled cars – by 18.9%, carpets and other floor coverings – by 13%, clothes and shoes – by 10.9%, furniture and household items – by 10.5%. Firewood in price by 20.5%, liquefied gas in cylinders – by 14.8%.

    Increases in prices was noted for potato by 62.1%, bulb onions – by 27.3%, cabbage – by 20,2%, mineral and drinking water – by 17%, confectionery – by 14.2%, alcoholic drinks and tobacco products – by 13%, gold drinks – by 12.6%, processed and canned fish – by 12.5%, butter – by 12.2%, fruit and vegetable juices – by 10.6%. A decrease in prices was observed for buckwheat by 20.4%, carrot – by 6.6%, rice – by 5.7%, eggs – by 5.3%.

    Regionally in February 2025, the inflation rate exceeding the republican average was in eight regions, of which the highest was in Astana city (12.7%), Akmola (10.7%), Batys Kazakhstan (10.5%) regions.

    Contribution to the annual rate of inflation

    The largest contribution to the annual inflation rate was made by food and non-alcoholic drinks (2.5 percentage point), housing services (1.9 percentage points), healthcare (1.1 percentage points), clothes and shoes (1 percentage point).

    Housing and communal services have risen in price by 16.3% over the year and their contribution to inflation amounted to 1.9 percentage points. In February 2025 compared with February last year, rental tariffs increased by 16.5% and contributed to annual inflation of 0.6 percentage points, tariffs for cold water (by 70.7%), electricity (by 21%) – by 0.3 percentage points each, maintenance and repair of residential premises (by 6.1%) – by 0.2 percentage points.

    Over the year, prices for meat and meat products increased by 6.2%, fruits and vegetables 9.3% and made the main contribution to inflation of 0.7 and 0.6 percentage points, respectively. The rise in prices for dairy products by 6.1% contributed 0.3 percentage points, oils and fats (by 10.5%), soft drinks (by 9.5%), bakery products and cereals (by 2.8% ) – 0.2 percentage points each in annual inflation.

    In annual terms, clothing prices rose by 10.6%, shoes – by 11.4% and contributed 0.7 and 0.4 percentage points to inflation, respectively.

    Glossary

    Inflation - an indicator that characterizes the change in time of the average price level for a fixed list of goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption.

    Contribution - the amount of influence of the percentage change in the indicator on the overall value of inflation.

    Methodological explanations

    The consumer price index, which characterizes the level of inflation, reflects the change over time in the general level of prices for goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption.

    The calculation of the consumer price index is based on information obtained from two sources:

    • data on price changes collected by their direct registration in specially selected for this purpose outlets and places of services;
    • household survey materials regarding the structure of actual consumer spending of the population.

    The collection of information on price changes is carried out in a selective circle of cities and regional centers, in all regional centers, in cities of republican significance and the capital. The choice of basic trade and service enterprises is carried out locally. Objects of all types of trade and paid services are selected so that the survey includes enterprises with different trading conditions and regularly selling goods (services) of mass demand.

    The set of goods and services for monitoring consumer prices and calculating the CPI is a single sample for all regions of Kazakhstan. The list of goods and services contains 508 items, which representatively includes the most representative types that occupy the largest share in the consumption of the population.

    The collection of information on prices is carried out directly at the places of sale of goods (services) by price registrars. Prices are fixed for goods paid on the day of the survey, including taxes, but excluding additional fees for their delivery.
