The list of greenhouse gases included in Annex A to the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol includes: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6).
The total amount of greenhouse gas emissions should be calculated for the entire economy. In addition, this indicator should be used in publications per capita and per unit of GDP, which is expressed in constant prices in national currency and in US dollars, as well as in purchasing power parity (PPP) in us dollars.

State regulation in the field of greenhouse gas emissions and removals is carried out in accordance with the Environmental Code of January 2, 2021 No. 400-VI LRK.
JSC «Zhasyl Damu» is the authorised organization of MENR RK for the preparation of the annual national inventory report of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases not controlled by the Montreal Protocol. This report is submitted annually to the Secretariat in accordance with the obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the UNFCCC, and the adopted protocols and agreements thereto, ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Unit:
The indicator is measured in millions of tons ofCO2equivalent. For the purpose of interstate comparison, it is recommended that the indicator is also calculated in thousands of tons per km2 of the country's territory.
