    At the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year in the Republic of Kazakhstan personnel of the highest scientific qualification were trained in 114 organizations for the preparation of magisters, 79 organizations for the preparation of doctoral students and in 24 organizations for residency students.

    The total number of magisters is 42613 people, of which 23328 people or 54.7% are women. At the expense of the state educational order 20714 people or 48.6% of the total number of magister students are studying, 20374 people or 47.8% receive paid educational services.

    The total number of resident-doctors - 9631 people, of which 6044 people or 62.8% are women. In the reporting year 3958 peoples were admitted and 2965 people graduated.

    The total number of doctoral students is 9491 people, of which 5789 people or 61% are women. The largest number of doctoral students is in Almaty – 4606 people (48.5%), Astana – 2492 people (26.3%), Karaganda region – 493 people (5.2%).

    Magisters degree - postgraduate education, the educational programs of which are aimed at training personnel with the award of a "magisters" degree.

    Residency - the level of postgraduate medical education, the purpose of which is to acquire or change the professional qualifications of a doctor in the relevant specialty for admission to independent clinical practice.

    Doctoral studies - postgraduate education, the educational programs of which are aimed at training personnel for scientific, pedagogical and (or) professional activities, with the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor in profile.

    Candidate of Sciences, Doctor of Sciences - academic degrees awarded on the basis of the defense of dissertations by applicants.

    Doctor in profile - a degree awarded to persons who have magistersed the doctoral program in the relevant field of professional activity and defended a dissertation in the Republic of Kazakhstan or abroad, recognized in the manner prescribed by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

    Methodological explanations

    The publication provides information on the main indicators of postgraduate education at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year.

    Postgraduate education is carried out in the magistracy, residency and doctoral studies of organizations of higher and (or) postgraduate education, scientific organizations in the main profile of activity and areas of training.

    Postgraduate education is acquired by citizens with higher education. Training in educational programs of postgraduate education is carried out in the form of full-time education.
