Brief description:

This indicator represents the total area of agricultural land subject to soil erosion (separately for wind and water erosion). Wind erosion – destruction, removal and blowing of soil cover or rocks under the influence of wind and precipitation, solar irradiation. Water erosion is the erosion or washing away of rocks and soils by flowing water.

Methodology:

The indicator is formed once every five years in accordance with the consolidated analytical report on the state and use of land of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the land resources management Committee of the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Unit:

The area of land affected by erosion is measured in km2; the proportion of agricultural land affected by erosion is expressed as a percentage.

Goal:

This indicator allows you to assess the total area of agricultural land subject to wind erosion, its degree and dynamics, which makes it possible to assess the state of land in terms of their degree of exposure to wind and water erosion, as well as the ability to plan and implement anti-erosion measures.
