Brief description:
This indicator describes the level of efficiency of energy consumption in the country. The indicator is the ratio between final energy consumption (and/or total primary energy supplied) and gross domestic product (GDP), calculated for a calendar year at constant prices based on purchasing power parity (PPP).
Methodology:
The indicator is in accordance with the «Procedure for the formation of the fuel and energy balance and the estimation of some statistical indicators that characterize the energy sector», approved by order of the Chairman of the Committee on statistics of MNE of RK №160 dated 11 August 2016.The indicator is formed by The Bureau of National statistics of the Agency for Strategic planning and reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of national statistical observation on the form 1-TEB «Fuel and energy balance» (annual periodicity).
Unit:
The ratio between energy consumption/supply and GDP is expressed in thousands of tons of oil equivalent (ktoe) per unit of GDP in international dollars. For domestic use, GDP can be expressed additionally in the national currency.
Goal:
Energy intensity is one of the key indicators of sustainable development. Its dynamics characterize the level of efficiency of energy consumption in the countryand provide a basis for assessing energy consumption and its impact on the environment as a result of economic growth.
