Brief description:
The level of oxygen content in reservoirs, an indicator of which is the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), i.e. the amount of dissolved oxygen consumed by organisms for aerobic decomposition of organic substances present in water and the level of concentration of ammonium nitrogen (NH4/NNH4) in rivers.
Methodology:
The indicator is formed in accordance with the "Methodology for the formation of environmental statistics indicators" approved by Order No. 223 of the Acting Chairman of the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 25, 2015.

The responsible state body for the formation of data on biochemical oxygen consumption (BPK5) and the concentration of ammonium nitrogen in river water is the specialized service of RSE "Kazhydromet" of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The state of river pollution is assessed based on the results of analysis and processing of water samples collected at stationary posts. Surveys cover all major rivers of the Republic.
Unit:
The average annual BOD value after a 5-day incubation period (BOD5) at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius is expressed in mg of O2/liter; the concentration of ammonium nitrogen is expressed in mg /liter.
Goal:
This indicator allows you to determine the state of rivers by the level of contamination with easily oxidizable organic substances and ammonium nitrogen.
